"TOTO will perform in Bandung, March 14th 2008"

Ever since I got the news, I keep on planning to prepare a poster to draw some attention from Steve so maybe there's some chance to meet him after the show. The poster wasn't ready till the day came. However, riding on the car from Jakarta to Bandung, I just had the feeling that I'd be able to see *and MEET* him that nite.

It should be an "everybody-sit-nice-and-quiet" kinda show which doesn't make sense to me watching a rock show from a seat. So, we (me and my buddy) decided to stand up and get closer (i mean really really closer) to the stage and I chose the front spot of Steve's.

Gypsy Train was the opening song. And my Bumblefoot shirt was successfully drew Luke's attention; in the middle of the song, he looked around and suddenly appointed me, then indicated his own t-shirt and smiled. Can you imagine how it feels like?!?!? However, it still wasn't enough for me. I needed to see him!

I waited for him after the show next to TOTO's bus. And the moment came.....Lee Sklar and Tony Spinner were first seen heading to the bus. At first, I planned to ask for a picture with those guys but as I saw fans are already everywhere around them, I decided not to go on. Then Simon came, I did ask for a picture with him but he refused. I could see from his face that he was really exhausted and tired. It's fine for me. I was there to see Steve.

Then, here came Steve Lukather.....
Asking him for a picture was the only thing in my mind. However, it never came out of my mouth as he already greeted me before I did. "Hey man,.....Bumblefoot, right?" and he shook my hand. I was just amazingly speechless...I was greeted by Steve himself!!!

Dream came true. Here's the picture:

Steve, if you read this, I hope you still remember this t-shirt that amazingly coincidently speaks more than anything else I planned to :D
Thanks for coming to Indonesia....Hopefully we'll meet again someday!!! :)

Nice to meet you and all knucklheads !!

Hey Guys,
I might mention it was 2000% humidity and very hot at this gig, hence the tomatoe face. I am red anyways but after runnin around for 2 plus hours.. I look scary. hahahaha
It was nice to meet you man. We had a blast and the crowd was great.
Thanks for comin.

I am in Kuala Lumpur now. We had to postpone ANOTHER gig till tonight. F-ing Indonesian customs held up our gear TWICE. Great crowds, great people but I wonder know about how their customs thing works.

Off to Japan tommorow at 7am for another long travel day. Looking forward to seeing my old boss Boz Scaggs and Paich is comin out and so is Joe Williams for the last 2 shows.
I love it there. I go 2-3 times a year. These will be some special shows as we are all playing together on certain tunes and the jams should be alot of fun and the HANG and the food is worth the trip on its own and I am about to strike out on my own.
Thanks for the good vibes in here guys and hope everyone is happy a groovin.
Hope I get to meet more of you on my travels. I WILL be out starting in June on my solo world tour. No rest for the weary.

The gigs etc..

Thanks for the love cats!
I am havin a GREAT time with my new band and this tour. I feel like kid again and the crowds are really great and digging what I am up to now. Its great set with great players. I am very proud and honored to get to do this for a living.
I am sporting MANY MM guitars. I am a human NAMM show. haha
I will be posting some USA dates ASAP on my website www.Stevelukather.net
I gotta get past the "Mr. Toto" stigma but thats why I am playing it very conservative, small gigs with a good vibe. I am starting over in many ways and I appreciate the support more than you could know! It going great in Europe and japan is almost sold out 6 months in advance. Life aint bad for an old **** like me. hahaha

I am bummed that Tyler left us. I like this kid. Fender has 2000 endorsees.
How many do Music Man have and the level of talent? Except me of course. hahahaha
I think the kid will see that he made a mistake but I wish him the best. Youth is wasted on the young. Its easy to manipulate a kid in high school. Fame-Fortune...
I got 32 years in and its still a struggle. The record biz is OVER and everyone is on the road trying make a living. I am VERY lucky and I know it but loyalty and friendship is something you cant buy.
Just my 2 cents

well said Luke. This wasnt about guitars or support both of which we gave to Tyler in addition to many conversations at all hours giving him advice. His new management consists of an old rock photographer and a will and grace tv guy. Tyler and his family have put their faith behind these guys and I hope for Tyler's sake they can deliver something other than burnt bridges. The photographer actually has taken many of Lukes solo album photos.....did he think that maybe he was hurting Luke? Wonder if Luke will ever use him again? THe old photographer didnt have the balls to tell me that he was doing this as I had introduced Tyler to him.

Oh well Ive seen the movie before...next thing is that the original bandmates wont be good enough.
IF I was managing Tyler I would focus on writing better songs and learning how to pace a show.

I met Tyler at Jacks 50th. SInce then I gave him four guitars all the strings he needed....I flew him out to California three times and Chicago once where I got him on the Eric Clapton Crossroads show where he met the old photographer. I introduced him to all of our artists and even got him jamming with Bill Murray.

Ive been in this a long time and this doesn't surprise me it disapoints me as I really like Tyler. Tyler didnt show me the respect or courtesy of a phone call or an opportunity to match what Fender is offering. We just got fired and even Tyler said in his email it wasnt about the guitars...It was business.

Lets hope that Fender can help make Tyler famous. I have yet to see a guitar company make somebody famous.......

I enjoyed our talk, Sterling. Hope I was at least semi-coherent. Sometimes news like that takes a bit of processing, especially when I'm half-asleep and have had an Ambien! I love Tyler, too; but ultimately I can only make decisions for myself. That's one thing I do like about getting older.

Bless you, Sterling. You, your family, and company are loved in my household; and always will be, come what may. I have had so much fun and have many stories to tell, all as a result of your generosity and friendship.
