Travis, deepest sympathy, man. We've all had stuff stolen, and we all know how it feels. (I had gear stolen from the Whisky a Go Go!)

Don't try to replace your bass. Sadly, it's gone. Instead, find something new...

He was distracted by a chick and someone stole my 1957 maple v necked gold anodized custom fire engine red p bass (maybe dargin will post this as this was a very special bass for me...my dad gave it to me after 15 years of holding it back from me.)

Are you really sure you want ME to find this bass? HAHAHAH!

i cant express how bad i feel for you. i cant imagine what youre going through. ive always taken something (pickguard, control plate, batter box, etc) off my bass and scratched my initials into the finish, just in case my bass does get stolen, i can use that as more proof of it being mine. best of luck to the return of your bass.

I feel your pain as much as everyone else here does.

I'd suggest immediately emailing Bill Leigh at B.P. magazine and sending him pictures - I'm sure they'll print it. Bill is a super cool dude and seems to really want to help out the bass community. You might even want to try calling him.

I'd also post pics of it at talkbass and start a thread about it, not just in the stolen gear section. I didn't even know that existed and I practically live over there. I'd start a thread in the basses section with big pictures. Your bass is EASILY recognizable, which is a great thing. I'd post pics in guitar forums too, but I don't know of any.

Call me crazy - but for some reaon I really believe you're going to get it back. My girlfriend could even spot your bass. :) She's seen it here and really dug it. I'll be putting the good word out into the universe for it's safe return. Best of luck.

edit: forgot to mention - if you have any pics of it's distinguishing marks - anything that can help prove it's yours if found, I would post it here now so there will be some sort of dated evidence that you had the bass first.

Yep Jon, youre right. Its easy to say sorry that happened, but there are several guys here that sincerely offered me basses to use. That blew my mind. This place rocks for so many reasons.

I have no good info on my bass, but it does appear that if its not found that I have a way to get another.

I cant tell you guys thanks enough times.

Travis,

I feel your pain, man. I, too, have had one stolen and tried to replace it with various Fenders and old German (Rossmeisl) basses. The pain will go away, but only when you replace with another Ray.

Good luck.

Maybe some photoshop guru can get it big enough, and change the contrast, but I don't think the resolution is going to be high enough.

I just did a search of Travis' threads to see if maybe he'd started a "Stingray birthdate" request from John, but I didn't see anything.

That does really suck about the loss of the bass. I was going to offer my Suped up Cort Retro 4 string, but since that can't possibly compete with playing HEINZ, I didn't bother. But, in the off chance you do need something to play on, let me know. We can always meet up at the ATL GC.

A friend of mine owns Ponier Music in Kennesaw, so I'll make sure he keeps his eyes open for it, just in case.

Clanner or Travis, do either of you have the original high-res version of that pic (the one that came from the camera)? If you do, I can probably bring up the serial number, and I'm no PS guru.

This is what I was able to quickly do with the low-res pic:

You can see why I'm hopeful that I can pull up the serial number!

If anyone does find a way to get the serial, please PM me or e-mail me as soon as you get it.

Ill look for the original pic on my discs. Thanks Heavy Duty.

Clanner, It wasnt a band event at the church, just where we practiced. The church is making an announcment at service tonight, but so far its still not looking great.

A hi-res version of that pic might do the trick.

I spent some time with the above image. Using and adjustment layer or two, I can get to the point where the S/N is reflected but there is not enough clarity to make out the digits. :(
