I am new to this forum, but I'm joining in on the common theme. I bought a new Walnut Satin SUB today. I am completely digging this bass.

I put down guitar a few years ago. I recently got back into playing and have been really enjoying bass. I began playing with a group and was looking into grabbing up a great inexpensive bass. I had done some research on the new SUB ray4's, but I was not expecting to see them in the local music store(rural area.) To my surprise they were there, and I was very happy with what I seen and heard. The guy at the store was impressed with them as well, and began bringing more out from the back. He only had WH and BL displayed. I wanted to see the WS in person. He brought out a beautiful Honey burst. Besides ranting about my excitement and thanking EB for making nice entry level gear, I wanted to ask, What is the deal with the Honey burst color I have seen pictures online though no online retailers seem to have them. They are also not included in the SUB line add either. Are they limited or were they not originally planned? I was just wondering. The color is really nice for sub $300 instrument. I have decided on it above the Walnut satin which was my choice before seeing the product. thanks

hi Wewill, I can't answer your question, but hopefully someone else will chime in.

My question, please help!:
I went to Guitar Center to order (or buy if they had one in stock) one of the Satin Walnut 5 string Sub SBMM basses. Well, they didn't have one in stock, no big surprise there, so I asked to have one ordered. Well, the sales guy could only see black ones available to order on his computer screen, so he called (SBMM I presume, but I'm not 100% sure who he actually called) and he was told GC couldn't order/sell the Satin Walnut finish for some reason, only black. He was quite surprised by this and apologetic to me about it.

I went home, opened my GC flyer mailer thingy, and saw a Satin Walnut 4-banger in there. Weird.

So, where/how can I order/buy a 5 string Satin Walnut SUB SBMM bass? I jumped on Google and see them available online from newegg.con and sears.com, but are these recommended sources to buy one form?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

The 5 string Walnut satin is only available through OTHER authorized SBMM dealers. GC only offers the black in the 5 string model. Go on SBMM's website for a complete list of vendors in your area.

this turned out to be great advise! I found Atlanta Discount Music listed as a dealer, called them, and they had a Satin Walnut 5 banger in stock. It's now in my car's trunk awaiting the end of the work-day.

Thanks!

sorry it's taken a while to get back, we've moved recently so that's been a hassle. But, the bass is awesome!

This isn't mine, but it looks just like this....

I'm a guitar player, but have had a cheap 4 stringer around for jamming and recording and whatnot, so I do know my way around a bass. This one feels, plays, and sounds great! The B string is nice and tight, it has that Stingray growl, and it's great looking.

Only real complaint is that the volume knob is either off, or when you roll it on, it just cuts on, probably at around 30-40% volume, then isn't really a smooth roll up to 100% from there. It goes from the 30-40% "cut-on", to about full 100% volume when turned just over the half-way point. I've found a volume knob replacement fix that I'll probably get around to getting done at some point. Some slight neck-dive, but not too bad. Actually, I have only played it sitting down, haven't even strapped it up and stood up yet, so I can't speak to when a strap is on.

The active treble and bass controls are nice and powerful. A pretty wide sweep of tones available with those two knobs.

Overall, I've been very happy with it, and have found myself passing on guitar, wanting to play bass when jamming some acoustic stuff with friends.

I should add: it was set up great. I lowered the action a touch, and re-set the intonation on the D string, otherwise, it was set up great from the get-go.

Just a quick question to the powers that be. I see on the Sterling by Musicman website that there should be a honeyburst finish available in the US. But, I can't seem to find them for sale. Are these coming soon? I am eager to purchase!

Are you talking the SUB Series Ray4-HBS? If so, email me at [email protected] and I will point you in the direction of one of our dealers :) .
