Here's mine and question

I got this last November from Music Zoo. I had another classic black and maple SR5 but it was too heavy for me at close to 10lbs. I did a search for lighter SR5s and this was the lightest. I wasn't necessarily looking for a PDN but at 9.1 lbs, I sure glad I found this one! This my first MM and I amazed at the build quality and playability if this bass for this price range. As a long time Fender guy, still learning about all the nuances from this bass but I'm really, really digging it.

One question/concern though re: neck stability and truss rod adjustment. I live in SF Bay Area and there's not a ton of fluctuation in the weather in terms of temp and humidity. The bass came to me perfectly set up in Nov when the weather was relatively dry. As it started to get wetter, the strings started to buzz because the neck was upbowing. Loosening up the truss rod fixed that but since then I've found I've had to do periodic truss rod adjustments and the action gets too higher or too low and buzzes. I haven't touch anything else on the bass and this happened both with the original EB Slinkies and the DR Lo Riders that I use now. Anyone else see anything like this? I have 3 other basses and haven't had to touch any of them over this period of time.

Alright, you convinced me.. I really do like this package. If a Big Al SSS comes up on the used market, I'll probably try to get it.

I keep playing this thing & getting wowed every time. The deep bass & warmth on this bad boy just makes it perfect for blues, playing with a pick. Its not the most aggressive cut clarity bass I've heard... but one bass can't be everything. This is just a solid instrument top to bottom.

I'll be joining you folks this week! Finally realizing my goal of owning a Bongo 5HH, and in spectacular fashion. Had to sell off the Big Al, just a touch too heavy for my back & shoulder, which I injured in a car wreck last week (the shoulder was injured last week, my stupid back has bothered me for years). Besides, it wasn't getting the attention it deserves. The new owner has been wanting my exact model for a long time, so it works out for everyone. I'll miss Al, but I plan on getting another 4 string version down the road. In the meantime, I'm not-so-patiently waiting for this beauty to arrive at my doorstep.

I gotta be honest... I've been looking at making my Sterling HH5 PDN a Bongo HH5. I'd like to have the Bongo be my warm bass & the Sterling be my super aggressive bass... the Mahogany mellows out the Sterling a good amount. Right now my Bongo & Sterling 5 HH PDN both have a similar sonic space.
If they ever did a maple\zebrawood aggressive PDN wood run I'd probably grab that in the Sterling too.

You will LOVE that Bongo, never let it go man

Hello all. I'm newly registered tonight so I can share my Stringray 5 HH with you. It's a beauty. Not top quality photos I'm afraid but hopefully you get the idea.

Awesome bass man, its amazing that no pictures can capture the beauty of these. I've decided I have to keep my Sterling 5HH PDN, its too awesome, I'm going to get another Sterling 5 HH with a maple neck. They will be VERY different especially with strings with different tonal goals.

This thing is AWESOME for warm round bass tone for blues, country & I'll put steels on my next Sterling 5HH maple to be super rock aggressive :)
