BP, I'm very proud of all of the work you do for your family, customers but more importantly good causes. I don't understand some of the folks at TB and it appalls me to read what some type. I have read up on what you have done for your son and then starting the foundation. My family will never forget what you did for us last year. (For those that don't know, Sterling Ball made me a custom made breast cancer awareness bass after my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. He, along with Bass Central, then donated 100% of the funds to our Relay for Life team and got many members on here to pledge as well. I think in total, last year we raised right around 7k as a result with a majority of that coming from here.) I then just recently found out about another individual who has been going through cancer that BP donated a bass too.

Now, some of the folks over there will never know about that but that is because BP has done a lot of these things without asking for recognition but instead, has done this out of the goodness of his own heart. As a result, I am a Music Man player for life! Oh one more thing to add too. When BP agreed to make the bass for me last year, it wasn't like I had been a life long EBMM customer. In fact, prior to that, I had never even owned a Music Man bass before. 3 weeks prior to my wifes diagnosis, I traded a guitar to a member on here for a Sterling 4H that I still have and love. BP then made the BCA bass for me but since then I have bought 2 more EBMM Basses. A Bongo 4HH DDII and a BFR Roasted Bongo 4H. With this situation, I wish I had the money to buy one of these basses simply to support the company. One thing is for sure though. As soon as we get medical bills paid off, I plan on giving back to the work that BP has started and plan on donating money myself to the Casey Lee Ball Foundation.

It is sad to see how something that started as a good idea can go wrong for all sides. At least it is a bitter example for the risk of missunderstanding that goes with internet conversations.

I hope that all who want one will get their wider SR5!

I think this is all very sad - as I see it there are maybe half a dozen TB guys who would dearly love to have a 19mm string space EBMM 5 string. BP is keen to oblige but there is a minimum order requirement to cover production set up - all v reasonable - BP makes it cheaper and easier for people to sign up AND takes a fantastic stance re charity.

I am really hoping this bass comes to fruition for the sake of the guys really passionate about it, and for EBMM who've gone right out of their way to oblige, and also for the charity set to benefit also.

Oh and I'm not a TB guy, but was v curious about this subject so during the rather processional Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday I thought I'd read the TB threads - there was some good stuff there including posts from some of the guys from this forum trying to explain things to people - I got through about 10 pages and when I realised there were  41 PAGES OF POSTS - as I say, about 6 guys who are really enthused this, along with post after post of BS I thought hmmm.......................

It's very sad but I am really keeping my fingers crossed for Joe Bone and co, the genuine fans for EBMM 19 mm fivers, that this run happens....hell he's even offering an HH version now!

All this talk of 5 ers led me to bring out my SR5H for a couple of gigs - and reminding me it's a great bass, but then you all know that already :)

BP it is very generous of you to donate the proceeds of this run to charity. I will always be an EBMM fan because of all these things you do for others.

It's devolved into a free-floating referendum on the motives, business acumen and ethics of a successful manufacturer, fueled largely by a bunch of nincompoops with lots of opinions on all sides of the issue but no real dog in the fight.

This was my problem from the beginning. There are a few guys that do REALLY want this to happen. Then there are the rest of them that are talking sh*t and trying to stir the pot. I am a talkbasser. I have been on the forum before I joined the EBMM forum and talkbass is THE reason I bought my first Ray. That thread was rediculous and anytime that I tried to comment and say "listen you guys are being unreasonable" I was blasted that it was an open discussion in an open forum. Too many people wanna run their mouths about something that they don't even care about or understand. Half the people saying they'd buy a 19mm spaced SR5 in a new york minute were full of crap. I'm sorry to the guys that wanted this to happen, but it looks like Big Poppa was right. There's not that HUGE of a demand for it.

Also, there have been a lot of people on TB saying that "seeing how Sterling handled this I've lost respect and will never own a bass built by his company."

I say the opposite: This has done nothing but make me want to play his basses. Big Poppa gave them what they wanted, it just turns out most of them were full of crap and didn't want anything but to complain.

To the guys that did want the 19mm Stingray and are ready to buy, I hope it works out.

To Big Poppa, I hate what has been said about you and your family. You seem to be a great guy and I admire the way you do business.

I cant control Talk Bass...I can control here...So lets talk about 19mm spaced basses and let the other stuff do its thing. I also need to make sure that everyone understands that what they say is actionable.....They are poking a bear.

I lost peoples respect because I offered to make something and give the money away....I think I will live.

+1 madbassplaya, well said, I agree with all of it... now we get our Bongos\Sterlings & let the others play with the 19mm stuff :) Good for those that can play them, I can't... but that works out great for me as the 17.5mm product line by Sterling are incredible.
Hope you 19mm guys get your basses, good luck

I would love to do a side by side comparison.
The only 5er I owned that was not a Stingray or a Bongo was a 55-94 from L******.
That was quite a while back so I can't exactly remember how it felt. Was that a bass with 19mm spacing? It felt pretty comfortable although the neck was quite big/wide above the 12th fret.

The Bongo neck feels (a lot) faster anyway and it sounds like a million bucks.
But I'm a sucker for 22 fret necks so I prefer the SR5.

From what I read over at that other site I was unsure of how I felt about how BP handled this but after reading this I'm now not only a fan of the basses but also a fan of the BP. I'm not a 5 string guy personally but I hope this works out for those that want them.

As a guy who has been part of this conversation (both here and on TB) and intends to put his deposit in as soon as payday comes, I am flat-out puzzled by the all the emotion involved here. Seriously. I really think that everyone involved needs to take a freakin' deep breath. It seems to me that the request for this design option was VERY reasonable, and that "BP" has respond very reasonably. Where's the reason for outrage on other side? I don't get it.
