Question Roasted Maple Fretboard

Calling all awesome JP15 owners! I need some help and guidance. I've never played a roasted maple neck/fretboard before and I have been thinking of getting a JP15 of late.

Could you guys please tell me how it feels like maybe? I know the tone is a bit brighter and snappier, but does it feel smoother and easier to play? Any other specifics I should be aware of?

I already have a JP6 stealth black with an ebony fretboard, so that could be a good reference to start with.

Your title says fretboard, but your post says neck...

I'm not sure there would be a difference on fretboard between roasted and regular maple, since the material is only about an eighth of an inch thick...

On the neck, I like both roasted and regular maple - but are the JPs you're used to playing painted/finished necks? Can definitely say I appreciate the oil/wax finish of the EBMM neck - that's the number one factor of them in my book! :)

yep. the oil/wax of the JP15 neck is sublime. Then again, I also love my JP13 which has a painted neck. Can't go wrong any way you look at EBMM.

You should feel the strings, not the fretboard, FYI. But the fretboard is as glorious as the neck!

Thanks Kevin! Apologies for the confusion. I meant both the neck and the fretboard since I've never played any of them in maple (or roasted). I have a JP6 with a black neck and ebony fretboard.

So I don't know how they feel to touch and the comfort level!

I can't speak for the 15, but my custom/artist has rosted Birdseye neck and ebony board is like sex on the hands.

I've got a Luke III in roasted maple neck + roasted maple fret board and also an almost identical Luke III in roasted maple neck + rosewood fret board. The two necks feel identical, in my opinion it's the roasted maple on the back of the neck that makes the neck feel different from other necks.

Agreed... with jumbo & medium-jumbo frets, my fingers never even touch the fretboard... so it is irrelevant from a "feel" perspective what the wood is on the fretboard.
 
I'd also add that they're, IMO, more stable thru temperature changes than any of my other guitars. They really are fantastic!!
 
Just received my JP15 blueberry burst. Fastest neck on this side of the mississippi. I highly recommend.
 
Awesome guys! I'm sold :) another quick question I had is that I've been noticing that some necks have more of a flame finish where as some have a birds eye finish. Is that true? Are there different finishes for the roasted maple neck? If yes, is there any criteria, and does it affect the durability? Thanks everyone!

Thanks for that buddy. I did call up EBMM yesterday and spoke to AJ, and he did clarify this :)

So I guess it's just luck then :) I'm not a huge fan of heavy figuring on the fretboard TBH, so I guess a cleaner fretboard appeals more to me :)

I guess same goes for the body for me. Huge fan of the flame tops, but not so much of the quilt top. Just a personal preference.
