Do you expect Frosted Flakes to prove they "taste great" prior to purchase? Just sayin'.

Marketing by definition is providing "value" to your potential customers. EBMM has different market segments... some prefer standard finishes at reasonable prices, some prefer limited runs and fancy figured necks, some prefer classic instruments.

Those who like limited runs and figured necks probably digg this particular offering... I know I do.

As for the other benefits, I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to think they won't be true. EBMM has ALWAYS delivered on ANY of their claims.

Just like frosted flakes... If BP says it's gonna be tasty, it's gonna be tasty. If you trust him buy one, if not don't and wait for the Consumer Reports review and try to find one after the fact. Your call brother.

Sterling,
The claims that you have made may very well be true...IMO, it's marketing until it can be proven

I'm not entirely sure this is the right way to go about this or maybe not even the right place. "You could be telling us the truth or you might be blowing smoke up our bums." There is something a bit jarring about it, especially when said to a guy who has been as open as the proverbial book about so many of the things that go on at Music Man.

I think this is the end of this part of the thread.

Please continue with the comments and questions but not along the lines above.

"Main Entry: mar·ket·ing
Pronunciation: \ˈmär-kə-tiŋ\
Function: noun
Date: 1561

1 a : the act or process of selling or purchasing in a market b : the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service
2 : an aggregate of functions involved in moving goods from producer to consumer"

I guess Im just trying to get how this is tied to you wanting more detailed explanation...

I also wasnt mean spirited....I really believe that I am real here...Being a customer does not give you a kevlar vest and the right to suggest that I am less that forthright.

Maybe if you are still around in your second hundred posts you will get the lay of the land a little better.

Now what you dont get to do is make this any more about you and your expectations of treatment and information.

I do have one question....Provided you got the info to prove that we aren't lying to you, do you plan on purchasing a roasted special?

Jim, that was pretty rude of you to go into BP's home and call him a liar. When you do that, customer or dealer, you will be put in your place.

The man has been in the music industry since he was little more than a boy and has forgotten more about instrument design than most of us will ever learn. He's not selling a gimmick. He won't cheapen a marque cultivated by men he looked up to (including his father) just to sell a few instruments on a specious claim.

Back to the real topic, Matt... what are you ordering? Will we be seeing a lonely BFR logo in a sea of an unlined Ebony board? Would be an awesome look. JOSH

Am planning on buying another MM and am in the process of selling another bass to fund it. More information would be helpful for the neck decision.

I'm eagerly anticipating my first new Ball in over 7 years - Roasted maple neck BFR Bongo 5er, HSp. I've been waiting for the right reason (other than 'I freaking want it') to invest in a Bongo - this was the one. When it comes to basses, the most effective marketing for me as a consumer is 'growl of bass' (analogous to 'word of mouth') - I know what I hear, I know how the instrument feels, and I know my first Stingray funks the same after 14 years. When EB offered up the roasted maple necks and listed their benefits, I was sold. Stepping off my soapbox...

Out of curiosity, what elevates a particular instrument (like these roasted maple necks) to 'BFR' status? There are limited-run features (like the DD package) that don't get the BFR treatment. Just curious! I feel a bit unworthy obtaining a BFR with such ease - am I alone here?

That is my function here right? To ensure at least one blank plank is created in each limited run? :)

I'm aiming for an SR4HH, and of course unlined fretless :), don't know what they'll do about the inlay, but I'm very excited. I can only imagine how amazing that's going to look. :)

Ok... I'm getting PRETTY close to biting on a roasted lefty SR5... already talked to a dealer and got a quote... now talking to the wife... not going so good.... ...but it's been worse, and I still got the go-ahead. :p

If lefties were available in HH, I would have already jumped on this without hesitation... I just... I'm skittish because I don't want to bite on this thing and then find out that a lefty SR HH or Classic will be announced at NAMM this January.... and those two things are what I REALLY want.

UGH!

I guess there's worse things to worry about...

This roasting business is really interesting, and I am pretty sure you'll be able to hear the difference:)
Too bad I'm currently not in a position to buy another bass...

I thought I was working my way towards a (roasted) Single H Big Al...and then the air conditioner repairman came along.

*sigh*

I'm trying to free up cash and space for a Bongo 5H or 5HH...

Figured it would be a nice bass to join the Bongo-club with... :p

Now, if only I can sell that Sterling before the order window closes...
