So I've got this guitar, you've all seen it for sale before, it the 20th Anniversary Silo, 1 of 13. I bought it on a whim, it's a great guitar and all, it's just not one of my favorites. I'm a paint guy, the top is very cool and all, but it's not for me. So, I'd rather keep it than give it away, (this was without a doubt the most expensive EBMM I've bought to date). So, I've been toying with the idea of have it painted. So, I'm just not sure how they'd do that with a top like this. Any idea's?

Billy, yah know that's the reason I'm torn here. I want to, but I don't want too and I'm really not sure what I'm going to do.

I've been debating this in my head for some time and I've talked to a few people and most have said "Make it your own, do what you want.".

Glenn- if you don't love it now, will you love it with a different finish? If not, you'll be out more money on a guitar that's harder to sell.

I know it's hard to let things go for less than you wanted, but every guitar moves at the right price. $1700 is still pretty expensive - you're in new guitar territory for that price. Drop it down or take offers and you might move it. Cash is cash after all.

Personally I feel like it's better to take ok money for something I'm not using, vs holding out for great money and not getting it at all.

If you saw my refinishing thread, ebmm paint separates from the polyester base coat with a heat gun very easily. If *I* was going to strip it, that's how I'd do it. That being said, I wouldn't because of the limited nature of the guitar. But that's just me.

Dude, it is 1 of 13.... I forbid you to touch this guitar. I will hunt you down and.... Well... Yell at you a lot if you touch this guitar.

Listen to what Beej said. If you're not happy with it now, just sell it.

Glenn,

Please do not do that to this 20th!! Way to nice and well way to expensive plus like Beej said, still may not like it with more cost. Lets make a deal:) my cardinal red sparkle for your 20th. The CRS is the most expensive I have ever bought and did not bond with:)

No matter what do not mess with that beauty, be like refinishing a dargie:(

Seriously, do not do that.

Sell it, trade it, keep it and will it to your children.

Just do not paint it.

I gotta ask, what is motivating you to keep it and paint it? The fact it's an anniversary Silo?

Wisdom.

DO NOT change this guitar. Imagine that guy in 1965 had a 58 Les Paul...

Glenn-

I've been eyeing it since you put it up for sale. If you are seriously considering selling it shoot me a PM and maybe we can work something out. I'd hate to see something as unique as the 20th be permanently altered.

However, this is always an option...

If it's correctly refinished by an experienced professional, it could be awesome. Imagine a deep blue, or 25th anniversay-style red, or even pink burst?

I think Tolie has proved that worth of doing something radical to an already fabulous guitar. If you're really sure you're keeping this one, and are happy to put more money into it for a possible negative return, then I say go for it! :)

Thank you, Dr. Kev! :)

Hi Glenn,

You've had the 20th on the for sale thread for a pretty long time, so I'm wondering if new paint will make you suddenly love this guitar? I think that Keith's offer to trade for his mint condition Silo in Cardinal Red Sparkle is the most sensible option at this point. While I understand that his is listed for sale at $1100 and yours is listed at $1700, I would think of it as trading one beautiful guitar for another. No one is offering either of you money, so the listed prices are a moot point. You'd be trading one you don't play for one with a beautiful paint job that you may end up loving and playing often. You're into cool paintjobs and the copious amount of metal flakes in the sparkle select series finishes will satisfy your lust for a painted ball. ;) Keith is a trustworthy guy who many of us have dealt with, so you can be confident that it would be a smooth transaction.

If I am mistaken about your fondness for the 20th, and you love playing it but hate looking down at that finish, then maybe a refinish would be good for you. Marty Bell does amazing work. But, it would probably be around $400. I still say you should swap it with Keith.

I hope my humble opinion helps you. Have a great day!

Agree with the trade option as, after Spike gets tired of yelling I just MIGHT have to kick dirt on your shoes if you molest the original color! :p

LOL guys my trade offer was tongue in cheek:) If you know Glenn he loves sparkles! I am not trying to add any guitars since I barely play now days due to my arthritis.

But 20ths are great and Glenn's does have two attributes I love, hard tail maple fretboard:)

Glenn:

My POV is this: Lower your price and it'll sell. You have been trying to get that price for a LOOOONG time. I have seen a number of 20th Silh's sell on eBay for lower than your asking price. Granted, it's one of a few with hardtail, but frankly hardtail is perhaps a less-desirable option (which is why it's so rare). All the ones I have seen sell have been with trems.

I would recommend you cut your losses and drop the price to $1400 and blow it out. It'll sell once and for all and you're done.

Little story: I had a yard sale once and I researched prices online and marked everything with a price that I felt was fair but not giving the stuff away. I sat in my driveway for two days and had literally hundreds of shoppers and at the end I spent 2 hours loading a sh!t ton of stuff back into my attic that hadn't sold. The next year, I had another yard sale and brought out the same stuff from the attic (which still had its little price tags from last year's sale). I crossed off every price and dropped them 30%. By Sunday night, I had a cash box FULL of money and the stuff that didn't sell fit into one garbage pail and I put it right to the curb. Done. Everything gone. Pocket full of cash. WRAPPED.

Holding out for the perfect price is tough and sometimes you just need to cut your losses and move on. I'm not saying drop it to $1100 or trade for Keith's Cardinal Silo… But maybe $1400? $1300? It's doing you no good right now.

But I do agree with everyone here. DO NOT paint that guitar. And if you DO paint the guitar, route it for a trem and get a vintage trem from AJ! LOL.

Good luck, Glenn!
