"to help Peavey get it right"

Now I have been known to be outspoken.......(duh REALLY Jim?), however, I do use Ampeg and love the stuff, but when I could not afford it, I used Peavey....and If you guys go to www.person2personmusic.com click on "All I Need, Live version", that was a Peavey Mark 4 with two, 2-10 1-18 bottoms and it was one of the best sounding rigs I ever played through.

Hmmm,

That performance was surprising. I expected a dirtier vintage tone... Sounds good, BB.:)

Actually guys, the last time I "gave up playing" lasted about one year. I should have said I am taking a break from playing. When you lose your job and start a business the cash becomes harder to get. Don't forget about the courts and back child support. Some of you cats know exactly what I am taking about.

Mr. Light and a few others are right. I have decided to keep playing. The Trace amp auction has been cancelled. Perhaps it's time to forget the fretless thing and stick to fretted. Is it time to look at one of the new limited edition Rays?

Damn good job too ... I'm a few years older than you at least, and very liely to be a many orders of magnitude worse bassist. I keep trying to give up and pass on my kit to a better home, but when it comes to the crunch, my fingers kinda sieze tight around the neck and refuse to let go 'till I start trying to play again ..... bass players ... we can't fight it .. it's in our blood.

If you can afford to keep a fretless ... keep it ... the sound is pure pleasure, and the feeling of achievement when it does work is priceless .. almost as good as hearing an audience coming back at ya.

Now there's what I mean ... 24 hour turnaround from "Amp for Sale" to "Hmm .. think I'll get me one of those new $x,xxx guitars!!! ...

All the best with your new lease of life.

Reading this thread is like trying to watch tv when someone is constantly changing the channel. My head hurts.

Man I am with you - went away for a day and its all got confusing - but very funny though. I like the fact that one post is about insults and the next is Beth taking about her car and country music (nice car btw Beth:D )

Anyhoo - just to complete the circle...whats up with Trace then?

only joking:p

I used my Trace rig for the first time in years (7210 combo + 1153 extension) on Tuesday night with a new band.

The studios I've used over the last few years have had good gear (Ashdown ABMs and Ampeg SVTs) so the Trace was gathering dust in my spare room while I saved my back.

I now remember why I bought it!

Man,

I got some gear demoing to do!:p I wonder if there is any noticeable difference between Ashdown and Trace Elliot... Hmmm...

There's actually quite a difference. The Ashdown has more dirt to the sound, with the valve drive control and you've also got the subharmonic synth circuit. The Trace has (IMHO) more clarity and punch and has a really good compressor.

The lack of the valve drive doesn't upset me too much. If I need that, I can use my sansamp BDDI. The sub I've never found too useful on the Ashdown, which is probably down to the cabs I was using.

They're both really good amps.

I could be wrong but I think that Ashdown amps are trying for a more vintage tubey sound than Trace even though they are very similar.

You see,

Stuff like that is good to know. That convinces me to go out and demo the gear. I'll have to see which type of sound I would prefer with my MusicMan. :)

Yes Yes, I know Ampeg is where it's at. But, the type of GAS I'm suffering from is the type that wants me to try everything, even though I'm comfortable with what I already have.:)

I tried ampeg. it was the only choice in the store for cabs when I got my first bass.

I have been plugged into ampeg amps. They sound okay. No they sound good. They are the standard. Fender is for some dumb ass reason still considered the standard in bass. I did not want the standard bass after I learned. I wanted one that spoke to me.

Amps was something it took me awhile to learn about as a bass player. I was so dumb I didn't know ampeg was the standard until I started readiing. I thank my 3rd grade teacher for making me an avid reader.

I decided for me. That ampeg is not what I want for an amp. I play peavey now but if God told me, tom you have to pick just one amp. I would without whining say Laney.

Now that my friends is a choice I don't think would be mirrored on any forum.

Ask me what bass I would have said SR5 3 weeks into playing.

See it is simple and each of our tastes may change. Or be rock solid.

Oh excuse me. I got carried away.

You are the bass player lay down the line support the band as you are part of the foundation. You are getting that done you are doing okay. Did you do it like Jamerson? Probably not. Still doesn't mean you can't get it done.

the saying that applies here is.

"Git er done"

PS.
There is nothing the matter with Ampeg. Lots of folks get what they are looking for with it.

Life is about choices. How about I make mine and you make yours? Good plan. IMHO

It is not a I will make mine and allow you to make yours deal. Nothing in life should fall in this category.

We all need a little help along the way. Even us old farts

IMHO
