I have questions about my sterling 4H!
It's a 2004 EBMM Sterling 4H

1. The 3 position switch has 3 modes, is it north (series), middle (single coil), and south (parallel)?

2. In single coil mode, which magnets is on? North or South?

3. Does my pickup have a dummy coil?

I have a couple other questions,
where is the best place to get a pick guard replacement but different color?
Is there anyway to get a replacement bridge but in gold instead of chrome?

If you want one of the standard colors you can get it from Ernie Ball, otherwise if you want something more customized, check this out: Pickguard Heaven: Prices - Music Man

I don't think you can get a gold bridge from EBMM, but there may be an aftermarket copy that would fit. From this thread: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-basses/2900-usual-questions-search-function.html

5. Where can I get a replacement pickguard?

A: Ernie Ball sells pickguards. You can order them through your local dealer, which is the easiest way. There are aftermarket guards available and the forum regulars can point you in that direction if you need something "special".

6. How do I get replacement parts for my Ernie Ball bass?

A: Through customer service at Ernie Ball, of course. Small items such as screws, nuts, knobs, etc are available for a small charge. Ernie Ball does not sell necks, bodies, pickups or other large items. If you have a damaged or otherwise unsatisfactory body/neck/pickup/etc, you can contact Customer Service and, with the return of the damaged item, you may be able to purchase an replacement.

7. Can I exchange my fretted/fretless neck for a fretted/fretless neck?

A: No. All parts exchanges are one for one, and the items will be identical.

I think those are chrome knobs just reflecting dark surroundings
all around them, so they look black in the picture, but you know
what I'm thinking, right ? And knobs are a fully reversible mod,
plus I think they are one of the few parts that EBMM will sell that
do NOT require a 1-for-1 identical direct replacement exchange,
cuz knobs do sometimes get loose and get lost on stage ... IOW
in a certain sense they're a "supplies" item, not a "parts" item.
EBMM uses black knobs on nearly all SR5s ..... but reeeeeealllly,
being as it's a "supplies" item, I think it's no sin to use whatever
black knobs are in stock at your local emporium. Perhaps you're
already well on your way down the road to perdition anyway ....
do you use strictly EB strings ?

As to the aesthetics of the swap, well it's inspired by your pix, so
if you like what you see, you can make it real, for about $15 :)

Thank you!
The bass is much more appealing to me!
I had a gig during this past weekend, and the Sterling was a funk machine!!!
Now I want a 5 string version Honeyburst:rolleyes:

I'm really loving my Sterling 5H!
It can get low, aggressive, sheen, or pure nasty!
My cover band played uptown funk by Bruno Mars and the bass felt like a breeze to play on.

I also just received my new pickguard.

Cool bass. I'd pass for that pg and those strings though :)

After 15+ years of MusicMan lust I finally bought one. Ever since I heard Gary Grainger play a StingRay with John Scofield (Blue Matter, Loud Jazz & Pick Hits Live) I wanted that sound. When I finally was able to buy one I wanted a Sterling instead of a StingRay. The smaller neck and smaller body were the main reasons. I did have some doubts when I spotted a StingRay 4HH SloSpecial in tangerine pearl though...

After a week this one was delivered, my Sterling 4H in vintage sunburst. It's everything I hoped for. Great neck, light weight and plenty of that famous growl and bark.

Very nice. My Sterling 5H has become my regular 5'er for all gigs. It just sits in the mix so well an has that great tone, I absolutely love it.
