The Ibanez Forum: IBANEZ RG 8 STRING @ NAMM ’07.

They're talking about it on the JP forums. I gotta say, I'm not sure I get why the extra string. I can't see that it's an extra one on the top because, as far as I know an 0.8 is the thinnest string you can get, and I would have thought the tension would have been too much to tune it to high A two octaves above middle C.

So it must be on the bottom. So is it a low G? Or F#? But why? Thats jsut stepping into baritone territory even further so what's the point? I guess there would be some interesting chordal applications, but I thought the whole point of the low B on a 7 string was to match a 5 or 6 string bass tonally.

What do you guys think? Is this something EBMM has ever thought about?

Don't think that the market is big enough for EBMM to manufacture them, but I can see a growing trend of guitarist seeking 8-strings recently.

i guess its good for innovation reasons, but 7 and 8 stringed axes dont really have any purpose for me. plus its an ibanez!!!!!!

Hey, nothing wrong with Ibanez. I have two and they are top quality, solid, amazing sounding guitars.
The build quality is alot better than F3nd3r and the stock pickups actually sound very good. Plus the Edge Pro tremelo is amazing.

I don't see the point in a 8 string axe, well l don't see a use for 7 strings, 6 are enough for me. But hell, whatever floats your boat.

Ive got a 7 string Ibanez, its surprising how the extra low B makes for some interesting chords. Plus you can you can play a low D without de-tuning.
Guys like Steve Vai have really put the 7 string on the map but the 8 string i think is a bit far. Wouldnt mind trying one though.
Fair play to Ibanez, at least they try to bring something new out, its easy to just rely on "classics" but some people like something a little different.

I love Ibanez but there colour selection is dire, its mostly black or variations on black such as black pearl, matte black, black and black.
I cant wait to see it, knowing me ill probly end up buying one if its cheap enough.

I've owned more than my fair share of Ibanez guitars (J Custom and Prestige as well as UV's and Jem's) and let me be the first person to say they are all crap. They aren't worth anywhere NEAR what they retail for. They're machine made guitars with no attention to detail whatsoever.

Maybe good value for money if they were all around $500.

Needless to say, after getting my first JP7 I quickly realized how pathetic the Ibanez's I owned were and sold them all but one (an original JPM1).

A move I will never regret!

If you look in the history of guitar, you will find Renaissance guitars with a lot of strings (with drones and so on ...).
So we are just reinventing the wheel

I think Ibanez makes great guitars at great quality, I've owned more than one Ibanez guitars in my life... except for one RG1570 that was totally not cool with bad hardware, I never had bad experience with them...

But I gave up my RG550 for the SUB1 guitar... I will never look back, it was the right thing to do...

I did have a RG7321 7 string Ibanez... didn't like the quality build but it was Korean so go figure... then neck felt stiff and the frets weren't great... but maybe Japanese 7 strings feel better... go figure... I'll stick to 6 strings thanx...

I played guitars like Ibanez JEM and other signature Ibanez guitars... they didn't impress me at all... but I can't say it's crap, but way over priced...

I'll stick to EBMM...

The Rg550 are legendary, i have the updated version, the 1550 and the neck is so sweet. The guitars are alot better quality at lower prices than say an american standard strat, but thats only on the Japanese made guitars. I paid over £1200 for an American Fender Floyd Rose classic strat and the quality is crap and the finish has tarnished horribly.
And i know this aint an Ibanez forum and i dont want it to be, im already a member of one. Just because i stick up for another brand doesnt meen i dont like EBMM or any other company so theres no need to have a go. If we cant have a conversation on another make of guitar then there's something wrong.

ok back to the topic, rather than ibanez quality debate...

I don't see also the point for 8 string. One guy posted some clips over JP forum of his custom 8 string. It sounded really heavy but I don't see the point to go that low. It sounded like a barritone so I would rather have that than 8 string. 7 string is cool though as it matches 5 string bass territory nicely. That's just my opinion. There are people which dig those ultra heavy territory but I think that bass should handle those
