This will probably get deleted......

Whoa ... go away for a few days and lookee what happens!

I'm really interested to see the 8. Don't like my odds of playing it, but I'd like to see what people can do with one.

Calling Charlie Hunter a gimmick? Man, go see that guy live and then say that! That guy thinks music in a way I can't understand- amazing!

Wow! What an interesting thread. I'd have to agree the Conklin idea wouldn't be for me. I just ain't smart enough! (nor do I have the time to re-learn scales). ;) I'd rather work on my voice, since that's what most people really listen to.

As for Ibanez, I'm keeping mine for nostalgic value, but it's a rare day that I'm seen using it in public. When in public, it's BALLS out!

How about the "88"?

I don't know what is so unreal about 8 strings guitar

you know that I'm using a 12 strings guitar for years :D

6 or 12 are more than enough for me anyway :p

I think its a bit OTT but there is always a handful of players who take on strange and unique instruments and really do something special with them. Like i said before, hopefully it wont be just metal heads who take it on and make it even more of a stereotype to play a guitar with more than 6 strings.

I have been really nice but use a little consideration in not posting other brands here. There are hundreds of forums where you can introduce the world to the latest from Ibanez...please not here

I aint advertising it, someone started a thread asking about it, plus various pictures of conklin's have been on here and nothing was said about that.
For the record i think it was as ugly as sin.
Anyway, ive removed the picture now.

no worries I said something to Jeffrey about the Conklin. On the bass side someone posted pix of his new p bass....just reminding everyone that this is the Music Man forum

8-string

Well, I'm not sure I'll be rushing out to grab one but I can see why it's getting people excited.

I've only seen a few guys playing 8-strings in the past but they've all been crazy-looking custom jobs that probably cost an arm and a leg. I think you'll get the odd shredder pick one up (Rusty Cooley plays one I think) and maybe some other players for that low-tuned stuff, but I don't think it'll be big like the 7-string. Not unless a mainstream band makes good use of it.

For low-tuning I would've thought most guitarists would use their heads and use a different guage or grab a baritone? Personally I prefer really low tunings on shorter scales. Take Goatsnake - Greg Anderson tunes lower than 'A' and plays a Les Paul... and he has quite possibly got the most monstrous tone I've ever heard!
