Incorrect, actually.

These particular instruments are tuned like a standard 7 string (low to high, B, E, A, D, G, B, E) with a high A.

The multi scale alleviates string tension problems (too little or too much).

They could be tuned however you want, that's just how these particular ones are done.

The top one is very simply what the customer ordered: 1 pickup, 3 octave neck.

Keep in mind, there is no "standard" Conklin, all his guitars are custom-made one-offs for the customer. So you are seeing what customers asked for.

So in that case there is no standard 6 string guitar as you can order any tuning with any neck from various custom manufacturers.
The 8 string i was talking about is what Charlie Hunter plays and is the one ive seen the most commonly on the net.
So by your reasoning, there is no standard?:rolleyes:

Well that made sense. :rolleyes: :D

Charlie Hunter plays a Penta, not a Conklin, and yes, it's made to his specs has he plays in a trio and handles guitar and bass duties.

It's a very function-specific instrument.

Most "atypical" 8 strings are setup exactly like a standard 7 string with a high A.

In otherwords, it's still supposed to sit in it's role in a band as a guitar, not a guitar AND a bass wrapped into one.

Just explaining other examples of properly-done 8 strings and explaining the multi-scale idea.
