It was actually a fun drive (well leaving the party at 12 and driving to get to LAX for my 4:30 homebound flight sucked). Stopped at lots of cool places on the way up to SLO. If we do it again I might have to fly into SF to drive down the coast.

That's probably better. I agree.

Who knows, though? It might be somewhere completely different.

I guess one thing that made Dallas so great is that we had people in Dallas heading up the research with regards to venues, hotels, etc. (i.e., Jack and Erika). They did a great job. Of course, BP has people in SLO. Having someone actually living in the eventual city in question would be key. Of course, they'd have to be energetic enough and motivated enough to do good legwork to get us good venues, good catering, etc.

Not only is it cozy in a kind of skeezy basement kind of way, it's readily accessible from an "international" airport (really), plus the guy's got the mojo to attract major artists such as JP and SM.

Not to mention six fingers.

And the fact that he's a leading EBMM dealer with an obsessive attraction for the coolest finish ever, Blue Dawn.

None of the gatherings to date have been anywhere near the Northeast US, which is arguably the center of the known universe.

Damn. I just shot myself in the foot there, didn't I?:D

Oh, and BTW, the fact that I live within striking distance has absolutely nothing to do with it. Really. Honest.

Andy,

I'd be interested in hosting an event in 2008 for our 55th Anniversary. In fact, I already have something in the pipeline with Derek @ EB...

Right now I'm willing to fly/crawl/have nick drive wherever in the USA to hit an EB bash this year.

I guess if it is an openhouse type event we all know it can only be in one place.

If it is an openhouse DON"T miss it I went to the one 2 years ago and it was one of the best times I ever had.

If it is a get together I guess somewhere where it is not too cold or too hot and easy to get to, accomadation etc.

Hey pops any idea on which month you are thinking about?

I guess I hope it is Openhouse 2

SLO was historic. Dallas rocked the knot. There seems to be certain constants that run through these events though.

The 10 Commandments
1. Food – Knowledge of the restaurants, chefs and catering that can stand up to BP’s scrutiny.
2. World class golf……..BP’s other vice
3. Available venues for the Knucklehead Jam and BP’s All Stars.
4. Production for #3
5. Available backline for #3. Guitar center in town….??
6. Easily accessible by air
7. Fun and frolic for all attendees
8. Various levels of lodging choices near the events.
9. Reliable and available transportation for all events.
10. Someone able to put everything together that eliminates or minimizes the headaches for BP and the EBMM clan.

And my nominations are:
(in no particular order)

Pensacola, FL – obviously I have to nominate my home town. Sleepy beach town. Gig and party on the beach. Everything within walki…stumbling distance. Great vacation town. All above handled.

Biloxi, Mississippi. – Hard Rock Casino and Resort. Brand new facility. Vegas on the beach. Not familiar about the golf choices though.

SLO – I’m back in a heartbeat.

Chicago or Detroit would be fun. Ran in each for years. Lotsa action.

Vegas – Whatever happens in Vegas……..will probably end up spreading like wildfire on the internet.

Wherever it is, I'm there...

What's the best way to get to SLO from out of town? Fly to L.A., drive up? Fly to SF, drive down? Fly to Fresno? How did people do it for the OH?

San Jose would be a tad closer than flying into San Francisco. But ya - that's the jist. Also, BP hasnt decided where yet...

I had looked into both of those... and were more expensive than LAX (but I bet the drive would be much better)

If it is SLO.....For those who've never been to the left coast. fly to SF and drive PCH down.

Yeah, as much as I like Chicago for it's close proximity, I wouldn't recommend it for late fall or winter...

Well, if Chicago was still in the mix - I can arrange for a fun excursion north to our fabulous brewery. It could be great fun - hard hat tours, corporate pub, beer tastings, tech center brewery, party in the caves, etc.

Your tour guide,
JIM

I'm on the road and sitting just outside of Nashville right now. Fun town. You'll have to have a talk with the folks at the airport about their displays that are everywhere - home of Gib.on and all...:(

Nawlins - now there's decadence:eek:. I haven't been there since big K but everyone tells me the Quarter is hopping like nothing ever happened. Great eats there too....

Tie in to the Voodoo MusicFest?? Original Rage Against the Machine is back
