so.....

it's official. i have sold all my vintage fenders. i now, literally, don't own a bass that doesnt have an "M" and an "M" on the headstock. you really can't understand what a statement that is, unless you really know me. the fender p, (and sometimes j) is all i have played for the last 20 years. it was my "thing". thank god (and derek), i woke up. im done with the past, and screaming at lightspeed into the future, and quite frankly couldn't be happier, and havent even hyperventilated over the thought of the moment that sure as god death and taxes will come (probably today) when the producer looks at me and goes "you mean you dont have ANY fenders?? no p bass with flats??? WTF?? how are we going to record today???", and i say, "NO!, trust me, try it mikey, you'll like it." i found a new home. i drunk the koolaid. all i need is the tattoo, and my transformation is complete.

Wow. I mean, I LOVE prime rib & a glass of pino noir, but at 7am, I still need my coffee and multigrain bagel.
That said, engineers desperately need to get up to speed on the positive developments that's been happening in the bass guitar world. Just because I step into the studio with an active bass like my Bongo, doesn't mean I'm going to sound like the kids he's used to tracking, scooping the mids & boosting the bass on their Ibby Soundgears for their metal bands.
...not that there's anything wrong w/that! :D

I know exactly how you feel. 3 years ago I bought my first EBMM, and within a month I went from 3 fenders and 1 EBMM, to no fenders and 3 EBMM's. I never looked back.

Interesting. I know you prefer EBMM, but didn't you have a connection with those old basses that made you want to keep them around? I have a couple of basses like that; I don't play them much, but every once in a while it's nice to pick them up and remember the good times we had.

Prior to April, I did not own any EBMM basses. I now have 3 with a 4th still being built. It won't stop there though. My goal after this one comes in is to try and buy one new at least every one or two years. Some people collect anything from baseball cards to classic cars. Me, I collect Music Man basses!

I still bring the P Bass to sessions for the dog and pony show. Once the producer or engineer hears the 25th, Big Al or the Bongo , there is no more discussion. The only non MM bass that gets attention is the Hofner cause it just is its own animal. There will be a time in the future where I will sell the P. It will make a nice down payment on a Porsche.

2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology . a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7. the members of such a religion or sect.
8. any system for treating human sickness that originated by a person usually claiming to have sole insight into the nature of disease, and that employs methods regarded as unorthodox or unscientific.
so,

living outside "conventional society" (definitely, check)

I'd say we're a cult.
