Based on other forums, the term Fanboi has different meanings.
For me, being a fan of a piece of equipment is to say I respect how it functions, how well it is built, and how it allows me a new tool to do whatever I'm pursuing (can be applied to cars, basses, milling machines, cookware, electronics, etc.).

For others, the term Fanboi would also suggest that the person in question is a complete a$$ kisser. Someone that would tow the company line without any suggestions or critques about how to make something better. Have seen this to be much more prevelent when a forum host is either a celebrity or well known achiever in that industry.

Jim C then this comes down to a trial of me? I don t profess to having done everything right. When someone who has never made a guitar or bass decides that they know better sometimes it causes a problem. I can handle any suggestions and criticisms as long as there is a little common respect. I managed to blunder my way through almost thirty years of making different guitars and basses in the USA. The people who have been run out of here have one thing in common...they are insensitive to others and hypersensitive as it relates to them.

The easiest thing to do when people decide to side with me when there is a dust up is to call them Fanbois. It is a mindless cheap shot by a rude guest.

Now can we get back to a little humor?

hhhhmmmm...seems to me it would be much better to be an ass kisser than an assho&e. I would say to to the people that don't seem to like this place for whatever reason to just go away and find a place that you like and leave us to our own devices.

More Kool Aid for me please!

Peace,

T

People - some people, I should say - still don't quite understand the difference between an open forum like, ferinstance, Talkbass and the official manufacturer's forum like, just as another ferinstance, this place.

I kind of get it. I was even the mod of an UNOFFICIAL EBMM forum at one time, and I got it then, which was years ago. Was the unofficial place more wide open? Sure. The users paid for the bandwidth - kind of like TB. Not at all like here.

I see sometimes the forum here characterized in certain ways (see my sig) and for the most part, I just can't be assed to point out how ignorant that POV is. I think we have a pretty good thing going here. Not sure anyone from TB or elsewhere understands the chemistry, but that's okay. They don't have to. Nor do they see the sense of family. Or the parties. Or the jam sessions. Or the nice things that the boss does occasionally out of the goodness of his heart - for people he's never met except for here.

So if that makes me a Kool-Aid drinker, well, I like Kool-Aid. I've mentioned before that I'm way too freaking old to be a "boi" of any kind, so maybe I should take that as a compliment.

to get back to the original topic, which if im not mistaken, was mine.... the reason i sold everything that didnt have sherwood roland ernie balls name stamped on it, can be summed up in one word..... respect. this company has done more for me than could ever be asked by a intermittently sane person. they've gone way above and beyond the call of friendship even. they also happen to make the finest instruments i have ever played. i could do my job with just about any piece of gear, but the gear that bp and crew has been turning out, is what inspires me, and its different. im bored with pbass. bored with jazz bass. bored with guys from chicago and new york making exact duplicates of p and j, and then stamping their name on the headstock. bp had the guts to put new ideas on the showroom floor. i happen to really really digg those ideas, and be terribly inspired by them. so out of respect, and loyalty, i sold all the sh!t i was bored to death with anyways.... big whoop.

This is all true of me, too, although Peter Frampton barely knows me.

No it doesn't come down to you at all but rather the attachment of followers to the fan club. I personally don't have a problem with hero worship although certainly not my cup of tea.

I think your company's ability to come up with new and innovative ideas is very strong; in fact I'm hard pressed to think of another company that has done so much in recent years towards the advancement of guitars and basses.
I agree with cyoungnashville's point of view that intruments are all just tools and the mechanic uses them to build; the idea that without a certain brand one could not follow their life's work is a bit of a stretch though IMO.

Agreed that respect is essential regardless of what you believe a fan is.
BTW, please keep up the great designs, excellent QC and fair pricing; they are greatly appreciated.

I don't know about anyone else but my take is that we all still have the freedom of choice and many of us have chosen to only use EBMMs. Does that mean that everyone else also has to? NOPE! Don't remember anyone ever saying that here. Do we need to show respect to our host? YES! This is his home. I would not go to anyone's home and start pointing out how I have seen better curtains, flooring or any other items. If it is not my cup of tea then I respect that it is their's and smile politely.

I am with CYN and Jack on this one. We have chosen our own individual preference for expressing ourselves musically. We are here to share the appreciation for the means to do so. Nothing wrong. If that makes me a EBMM Fanboi - SO WHAT! I accept that label and relish in it!! Not hurting anyone, that's why I am here!

Can music only be made with EBMMs? Nope. Do some of us think EBMMs help us make the best music we can? YUP! Is this the place to share that joy? YUP! Fairly simple really.

Is it bad that I've been door ditching at Frampton's house (seriously:eek:) - next time I'll leave Jack's calling card.

Back to the topic at hand, CY props to you. It is nice to see an artist who actually believes in what they are using and backs it up. Doesn't happen too often these days.

It's difficult not to get excited about a company doing something so, well... exciting. Especially about an instrument we're already pretty fond of.

Craig, I love your comment about the instrument inspiring you. That's exactly what I dig most about EBMMs. These instruments might not be everyone's cup of tea (or Kool-Aid) but hey, there's a forum out there for everyone, including Them. :)

So what, a few people here are a bit fanatical. This is where they belong. It's fine if you don't happen to understand it or even if you don't like it. If that's how you feel, you probably shouldn't be reading this.

Anyway, I love the inside look we get into the whole process, from thought to finished product. Plus all all the other insight we get from you BP and Craig who've been in the business for so long - priceless. Thank you.

So how about that gamechanger? Still eagerly waiting on that video!

I just think it's funny how people still get so riled up about stuff they don't understand that they feel the need to make a grandiose "mods, delete my account" post on their way out. It's like the Internet was brand new again.

Me? I guess I'm a Kool-aid guy too. I still have my other basses but the only one that gets any playtime is my SR5. It just sits perfectly in the mix in my band and is the most comfortable bass I've ever played to boot. Plus I'm jonesing really bad for a Bongo 5. Yea, I'm drinking the Kool-aid too. :)

I don't understand why folks go to a manufacturer's forum paid for by said manufacturer and then expect to be able to discuss other brands there.

Yes. By saying "upgrade", you are inferring (in the maker's forum) that there is something wrong with their products. Rick James got his butt whooped for crapping on Charlie Murphy's couch.
