I am glad that some have realized that they are self appointing themselves as moderator.

Yup. Listen, guys, I read this forum every day, sometimes multiple times a day and I have a pretty good sense of what's going on. If you think it needs moderatin' and none of us are on it, drop us a PM*, but we do keep up and try to keep everything pointed downrange. And what BP said.

The problem here is that everyone in the company reads this forum and I cannot allow any infleunce early on from the cayenne pepper cats

I, for one, am glad. Anyone who saw the original drawings of the Bongo and then the prototype will agree that the finished instrument was a much better thing.

I am content to let the professionals do what they do and I'll do whatever it is that I'm good at. (Browsing porn, building Lego Star Wars ships, staring into space....I am good at those things.)

Please watch and enjoy the ride.

Mostly what I'm doing, not that I suggest more people should be like me! Heh.

I am - we are all - curious about them crazy buttons, Biff. I know they won't end up like that but what the hell do they all DO?

Jackie

Personally I want to thank BP for sharing the proto with us..it is unheard of with any other companies I know of. And I already can't wait to try one out.

As far as the forum it can be a place for debate I would think..but on a thread such as this it is a privilege to see these photos so other then compliments... probably best not to stir the pot.

And I would also like to mention that because of this forum I tried out a Bongo and was blown away...so it does do good for the company in my opinion.

But to the topic..I am really excited about this bass..it looks like a must have since I forever have been seeking a bass with some awesome tone that does not weight 50,000 tons and has a good balance. Doesn't hurt that it looks killer as well, definatly my cup of tea.

Thanks again.

As a wild guess I am thinking 1 humbucker with 2coils + 2 sing coils = 4 coils and those 4 are on/off switches which probably allow you up to 16 different pickup selection. I might be wrong, and I hope I am wrong because I realized how stupid I am because if what I have just speculated is true there is a chance of accidentally winding up in a middle of a song with all 4 coils in the off position i.e. no sound, proving I really am stupid and I should shut up. See what I mean?
Assumption is the mother of all *blip*ups!!

Let me put it this way RobertB If Phatty said it and I said it why are you giving a counterpoint and "exposing" our marketing....If you disagree...fine go to the next thread.

Not being sarcastic here at all, but sorry BP, I'm lost. I honestly don't know what you're referring to - what it is that you said and Phatty said, and that you seem to think I disagree about. I don't disagree with anything I see about this bass, if that's what you mean. I think every aspect of it is great, and I'm excited and happy for you and the team. So I think something I said must've been misunderstood, but that's what I get for getting off-point. And this kind of drama is not what's worthy of attention here. This phenomenal new bass is what it's about. I think it's best if I just extract myself and sorta fade into the background around here.

BP, first thanks for sharing... I think it is great to see "the inner workings" on the new bass. Now a question for you. Generally (and you can base this on the Bongo development or the Sterling 4 or 5 or all the basses/guitars put together) Generally how many times do you do a new proto/mock up (whatever you want to call it) where you just tweak the properties of the bass before it is finalized (ie, the bodies feels big, lets slim it down in these areas, or it doesn't feel balanced, lets make the cuts in a different place). Sorry, just curious as to the development cycle (I think all of this is great - unfortunately it brings out the inner-geek). Thanks.

I was going to close the thread because of two people. Thats not fair.

Oddjob its all about5 tweaking things...you would be amazed how small one change can make...between neck joint bridge placement depth of horn, etc....

Usually when it gets down to it we go old school and I get my sharpie and dudley gets his files and we tweak it. In this case Drewbixcubed has handled the body and neck and dudley has handled the preamp and Drew has figured out how I think......scary for him

That's right, 28'000 views and over 540 replies, it will be a shame to close this thread, this is as hot as it can get for those who are eagerly interested in the development, so please don't do it, or at least make it read only, if you must, so that people can still read it but not interfere with.

Can't wait to play one, will definitely own one!

Thanks BP and TEAM for share with us.

In order, front to back:

- Oscillation Overthruster
- Magic Fingers
- Nitrous Boost
- Flight Attendant call button

Knob functions, front to back

- MORE <--> LESS
- FRESH <--> FUNK

Stacked knobs

- TASTE, FILLING
- CREAM, SUGAR

(Turn all four of 'em up all the way and you get a Venti Double Espresso Shot Mochaccino Latte)

currently these switches are for evatuation purposes.....

to turn on a funtion press down

THe one closest to the neck is the neck pickup solo
second one middle
third one bridge
forth one active passive

the fifth one is Active/passive for what ever you have selected all four down is all pick ups on in passive...first three all pickups active
I dont believe in off buttons so Capt you were right in second guessing yourself...also why have a off when you can use the off for another combo.....when everything is off it selects the nec k and middle and puts them in series..... then use the foprth button again to get acitve passive bridge and middle in series

the controls atre

closest to the neck volume second passive tone next ttwo concentric four band with a diffferent eq tweaking but essentially a Bongo preamp revoiced.

I hope this helps

BP,

Thanks for this information!

Question. When you tweak the sound of the bass in terms of the process, how do you make those final decisions?

Are you using your ears...a scope, playing in a band setting. Since the SSS is a new config, I was wondering how you go through that process with all the options.

Thanks
MK

Maybe this is too early to answer yet, but I'm curious anyway: Will the neck be SR- or Bongofinished? I mean oiled or painted?

And I'd love to see some video footage (like the BP/Petrucci guitar tweaking) where Drew tries to get the body to BP's specs with files, rasps or whatnots:D

And one last thing (for nw anyway): Will there be one or a few colurs to this bass, or will it be available with all kinds of finishes? I won't even try to calculate the number of permutations, but if it's offered in lots of colours chances are you could order yourself a one off, which is cool as, well, this bass:cool:

The thing is that we see a "bass" in these pictures. But im sure BP, Drew and Dudley dont look at it the same way we do. To them its not done yet... but to us the visual candy that's posted here makes us put the cart before the horse.

Let's let them do their thing. its not a bass till they say it is

You are ruining it for future efforts as I will be just like the other manufacturers and keep it in house.

Please don't do that! We promise to be good :)

Just a few quick questions, what is the body wood going to be? As you mentioned it will sound similar to a bongo I am thinking basswood...

and I'm not sure I understand your description of the electronics, I will re-read it again (I'm a little slow!) but are you saying that when in the 'off' position the switches select different combos and then those pickups are affected by one active/passive switch and the switches in the 'on' position are affected by another active/passive switch? So you can have a combination of active and passive pickups? The passive tone control...does it affect everything or only when in passive?

I am so excited by this bass.
