I had until last week a Marshall AVT150----I thought it was the best amp in the world (for me that is) Then got a Marshall TSL 100 and a George Lynch Genz Benz 2 x 12 cab.... WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE :D :D I loved my AVT but now I have separate EQ,s for each channel, two separate effect loops and two presence knobs! I think the distortion is meaner and clearer, an all tube Marshall ROCKS ...of course I lost the Acoustic Sim channel but I have a EBMM super sport with the piezo so I will live

Also I can't tell you all just how great the Cab is.... Try one out for your self! Since I work in a music store I made me a little spot in the store .. I had a Marshall 1960a on one side and a Marshall 1960v on the other and the Lynch cab in front of me..... I listened to the marshalls first and they sounded great but then plugged in the Lynch ..... IT wasn't more than a few seconds .... :D :D "THIS Cab Is Great!!!" I have never looked back!

Lets bring this one back up - always one of my favorite threads, and I'm sure some of the newbies would like to tell us what they run through... Hey, and how about you Mods? What do you use for an amp Derek? And how about you Greg?

Hot Rod Deluxe and Boss GT-6. THE DAYS OF BUYING 2K 1/2 STACKS ARE OVER, FOLKS.

Getting HUGE, HUGE, HUGE sounds out of it - all at living room volumes. HUGE SOUNDS. The GT-6 is absolutely AMAZING and it can be had new for $400. Musiciansfriend.com will even ship it to you for free and they have, I think it's a 60-day return policy, so if you're just a moron, you can demo it for over a month on YOUR TIME and YOUR GEAR. Like I said, if you're a moron and think "man, these sounds suck", you can still ship it back and get your $400 back.

3 Minute Boy - lose the GT-3 and upgrade.

Come on, MP - don`t hold back! Tell us what you really think! :D

Actually, my problem with the COSM modelling stuff (and I used a Roland GP 100 for ages before Line6 even conceived the POD) was that I just never seemed to cut through with it as well as I can with a tube rig. The thing would sound great in my bedroom (or music room), but live it would just get washed away in the mix... I know someone who uses a GT-3 with a Super Reverb as his "light" rig though, and he gets great tones out of it - his main rig consists of a Deisel VH-4 with a G-Force in the effects loop, so he knows a good tone when he hears it.

Main Rig,
>Mesa/Boogie Triaxis
>Boss GT-6
>Fulltone Clyde Wah
>Mesa/Boogie 2:90

Light Rig,
>Line6 Pod 2 *optional*
>Boss GT-6
>Fulltone Clyde Wah
>Whatever amp is at the gig.

Use the Boss for efx only, with the preamps in the loop for the main tone production...

I play a 6-string Music Man Petrucci through a T.C. Electronics M2000 parallel to a Bogner Ecstasy 100B top. The sound comes trough a 2*12 Music Man Box equipped with electrovoice - EL 12 speakers.

WOW !!!!! :)

For bigger rooms I run My Axis SS HH Trem to my EB volume pedal with a Korg Dt10, then to my pedaltrain board as follows. Crybaby, TC Electronics booster/sustain on clean boost. I kick this in when I need to cut through for a solo. Next to a Ts-9 RI, then either an Ibanez SD-9, or a Maxon OD-808, then to a Rocktron Tsunami chorus, and finally an Ibanez AD-99 analog delay. George L's on the board, Dimarzio Silver cables to GTR and amp. I run a Marshall 1959 SLp RI with thw channels bridged, into a 1960A vintage cab. Screams, great sustain with the TS9, and very warm. Small rooms I use a 1972 Fender Super Reverb NMV. Tasty.

I endorse Ernie Ball Music Man guitars, and right now my main axe is my Silhouette (black w/ matching headstock, rosewood, shell pickguard, hardtail, AMAZING) and I play through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo head into a 4x12 Straight Vintage Marshall Cab.

Distortion, I have looked at your site, and I have to tell you that I'd be happy to help you with your problem... If you ever need anyone to take an Anderson or Baker or two off your hands, you just let me know :D oh, and that's a pretty nice Turner you've got there too

Hey Jimi D, I have been looking for some professional help regarding my costly disease :D
My Turner is the most unique instrument that I own.. I had Rick Turner build it or me a couple years back.. I supplied the wood and it turned out quite nice.. With the Piezo and the onboard EQ you can get many very cool sounds .. Probably the coolest thing about the guitar is that Larry Robinson did all the inlay work and the Lion headstock is inlayed in 18K gold dust..

A bit off the track (sort of) I was watching the DVD The Last Waltz today Couldnt help notice Eric Clapton playing through a Music Man guitar amp. Did Ernie Ball continue the amp range or were they dropped?

The Music Man amps are long gone, but they're easy enough to find used, ime... I think many - if not most - of them had solid state preamps with tube power sections, and the ones I've played have a great clean tone but a harsh, grating distortion... When I saw Muddy Waters in 1980 he was playing through a 2x12" MM combo...
