Andy, are you sure about the serial number:? our database shows that serial number as an Egyptian Smoke finish single humbucker bass shipped overseas.. ...
Andy, there is probably a logical explanation here, we just don't know what it is yet. It would help if we could track down a receipt or proof of where it was purchased. Also - what country are you in?
I am - and I bet that serial number is E53178. That serial number references a SR5 HS in Blue Pearl with a black pickguard built within a few days of the other. But it would have already been boxed up, so it is extremely unlikely there was a mixup at the factory.
To make it even weirder, we don't show either of these basses as being shipped to Bass Central but instead to Consolidated Music, who is our international distributor not for Brazil but almost all of the Central American/Caribbean countries. They are based out of Miami, Florida. It seems now apparent that Consolidated sold these to your friend directly and at some point the neck plates got switched.
Andy, glad we got all that straightened out! Another case closed - so to speak!
OK, now for your information - E53178 was completed on 7/26/06. The color is indeed Blue Pearl, and of course is HS rosewood. It was shipped to the aforementioned Consolidated Music based out of Miami, Florida.
I thought Egyptian Smoke is not so green, grayer. I've seen this bass in person, but I've never seen an Egyptian Smoke in person. I love the color, that's why I ask. I want my SR5 to be that color, if possible.
I used to think the same.
But the guy who sold me my SR5 took some pictures of his egyptian smoke ray and it was very greenish.
In person, it was what I expect it to be before I saw the pics.
hey, does anybody remember the trans green? ive been saving my money wishing i could afford a musicman sterling and now i get a decent job and learn they dont make that colour anymore. What kinda costs would i be looking at for re-finishing say a natural sterling?
oh and by the way, that flake green would look awesome on a sterling.
I've been thinking about flake green on my Sterling and a purple Ray5.
Alright, you're looking at around $330 for spraying a body. If stripping is needed, it will cost an extra $125. I didn't make these numbers up, I got that as a quote from a company in England that does superb work.
