I don't want one and don't like the looks of them at all but I always mis read everything so is there a beef among the EB crowd and warwick crowd? and thanks for any info...

Hi
Notice the lack of finish, the weight, the "different" design, the ordinary clone pick ups and all the other subtle differences to a EBMM ;)

Personally, I don't "hate" them, but I'd rather play a OLP than those warwicks :D

Warwick makes some excellent basses. They've unfortunately been "niched" on the 'net...

No beef really. This is a EB company forum. Nice place to visit too.

We love EB basses here and would love to see pictures of yours.

This isn't a good place to talk about your umh Warwick or Fender.

It's a really complete line of basses, great tone, good ergonomics except for the weight, but too close to booteak pricing for a factory product. At least that's the price structure in the USA. In the E-zone perhaps it's reversed. In the southern hemisphere *everything* is reversed ....

I owned a basic Streamer for a while. Not expensive, sounds cool, sort of miss it but I doubt I'd buy the next one I see. I've been often tempted by fretless Corvettes that pop up at about $600 or $700 [new or used] but then I go home to think it over, play my FL StingRay or FL G&L 2Ke, and I never do get back to the shop for that "bargain" Corvette.

I really think that if the Warwick price structure were more like EB, G&L, or Spector, maybe then attitudes toward Warwick would be more positive. The new Warwick "Rock Bass" import line won't change anything.

I've owned two Corvette FL's, a Streamer FT'd, and a Corvette FT'd...not to mention two or three RockBasses.

I personally like the designs, but hated the weight and constant body waxing needed to keep the wood from drying out.

The tone is good for a few applications, but (IMO) is not as versatile as a Stingray or Sterling (I haven't heard a Bongo yet; may use one at the Friday night jam).

Most of the non-EB bass ribbing is expected here *in good nature*; Warwick just happens to be the lucky b*stard poster child for abused non-EB owners that brag about their phallic-looking basses here.:D

I'm guilty of some warwick bashing here, and truth is I was doing it more for a laugh than out of complete sincerity. Allow me to get real for a moment.

I owned a Corvette for quite a while. There were lots of things I absolutely loved about that bass, it had the growl people often talk about, it had a great slap sound, it was deep sounding as hell, and it had a great recorded sound. After I bought my first MM however the Warwick took a back seat. The basses seem to me like polar opposites in feel, sound, weight - and while I don't really believe Warwicks are crappy basses, I don't think that people who LOVE MM basses are going to be very comfortable playing a Warwick. That's the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I think I owe it to Warwick to go back now and clean up my last diss about them. It was unwarranted, and I don't feel good about it. Until I bought a Sterling, and then a Bongo - I was actually quite a fan of the company, and their customer service people alwyas treated me with the utmost respect. Bad Joe Nerve!

Now if you want to talk about Fender, I'll bash the living hell out of that company because I loathe just about everything about them.

And, to be quite honest (and fair), Dana B. Goods (Warwick customer support) is an upstanding guy who truly does help out his customers; sometimes going above-and-beyond!

But, that's enough pro-Warwick from me, lest I suffer chaffing!:D

I have to agree that Dana is a very great guy. I had a Warwick in here for set-up and repair that had a broken nut (the nuts are height adjustable for those who don't know). I emailed asking what distributor I should go through, and Dana emailed me back saying he was putting one in the mail for me free of charge. That's pretty cool :)

Aside from that, I'm not a bass guy so I have no coment :D

..., good ergonomics ...

 That's the last thing I'd say about Warwicks. 9-out-of-10 I've tried had balance (neck dive) issues - a huge design flaw! Strangely this dosn't bother some people, but i don't like to have to hold the neck up to play an instrument.

The corvette I tried balanced but weighed a ton - also didn't have nearly the sound of a thumb or streamer.

I like the sound and looks of some Warwicks , but a MM just feels right on my lap.

ok, time for my warwank story....

I won a bass, a warwick thumb 4, it was free, yay free....

I returned the warwick for a stingray4 and a few hundred bucks (sweet deal if i do say so myself). So thanks to warwick for helping me get my first ebmm!

ok, now the fun part, i talked to the kind folks at warwick, and they felt so good as to send me a hat and shirt and a few sets of strings of varying ammounts, i recieved the bass and loved it, best playing warwick, well balanced, and it had tone, but i wanted an sr4.

Now i'm a big guy, i have a huge head and have only found 2 hats that fit my oversized skull.

the warwick shirt was a size medium, and the hat was huge, donno the real size, but it fits me perfect. So warwicks impression of me was that i was a tiny dude with a huge head, half right! (the head part).

wow huh?

when's the last time ebmm sent me a shirt or hat? :(

;) :D I'd love to add a new thumb to my bass selection, my goal is to have an sr4, bongo, wal, rickenbacker, warwick. maybe some others, but why?

bring it

Fender Basses are remote cousins of the Ray. I like them if they're working ok. I have two in my tool box. It took me 2 or 3 years to get mine servicable. They have very serious quality control issues with there necks. Take a look at the Fender Discussion Page.

I will never ever ever friggen ever ever...ever ever never buy a Fender again ;)

I had to get that out ;^)

I have a Corvette Std and the bass does seem well built and solid. The waxing, weight, and grainy feel of the neck are issues that you either love or hate as apparant in these discussions. I do like the "woody" tone, especially with the bridge pup soloed. All in all, the quality beats any Fender I have ever had. But it has nothing on my G&L L2K or Sterling!!

BUT... If I invest in one of those new shhhhexxy HS Sterlings, the Warwick goes bye-bye :D
