Well, I sent an email to the seller, and he checked it out, then appologized and told me he's going to pull the auction - apparently, he listed it on consignment with a description given him by the seller, and since he's not an EBMM dealer, he really didn't know the difference... Seemed like a nice guy - but that posting was too much; really irritates me when someone who should know better doesn't... I mean, just because you are a Gibson dealer doesn't mean you should think that a Chinese guitar was made in the USA... oh, wait a minute...blackspy said:That's from a store too ?? Alot of times I overlook those auctions because it seems obvious the seller has no idea of what they're talking about, as far as they are concerned the OLP is EB. This guy, on the other hand, should know better and probably does.

I've posted this before but i'll do it again... MY TAKE ON OLP!
The whole concept behind OLP was to attempt to stop Sterling from being ripped off with the design "COPIES" that companies such as Jay Turser and many others were and still are doing. Sterling and OLP have licensed patterens of similarity in look and overall design; however, they did not and cannot match the quality of hand made instrumenst coming out of San Luis Obispo. That is a fact!
When a young player is looking for an instrument to learn how to play options for a good "inexpensive" guitar... Face it options are limited. Anything under $200 made by F3nd3r (Afinity, Squier) or Epiphone are pretty cheap in quality and playability. Then you have OLP. Who has worked with EBMM for licensing rights to certain designs... Such as the Axis, Silouete, JP6, Benji Maden Signature and the Luke designs. These guitars offer young players a selection of guitars that are playable for a small chunk of change. OLP did not set out to fraudulently sell instruments and they cannot be blamed for dishonest consumers buying them for $200 and making some mods and trying to turn around and sell it as an AUTHENTC EBMM guitar on EBAY.
We've all seen Guitars on E-bay that claim to be something they are not and we get a good laugh at the stupidity of the sellers. We cannot blame the Original Makers of the guitars such as OLP or EBMM. We cannot place the blame on those who are honest.
Well... that's my two on the whole thing. I like the options that OLP have thrown out to the market and will suggest them to young players... Heck I even own one and think it's pretyy cool. Obviously not an EBMM but cool non the less for a $250 guitar.

SteveB said:No matter what the legal details, I think it's safe to say that Big Poppa would probably never license a sig model to OLP if the sig artist wasn't cool with the idea. He just seems like that kind of guy. (i.e. friends come before money)

There's nothing wrong with OLPs. They are a $200-300 guitar. Period.
There purpose is simply to help control the "knock off" market.
Hopefully any beginners with OLPs will someday upgrade to the real EBMM![]()
