Those Smiths basslines are great. Saw Morrisey recently & it was a good show. I would kill to see a reunion w/Marr/Rourke.

Melvin Gibbs was with Rollins Band for a few albums right? He's AMAZING! Is he up to any othe projects now?? Also, I forgot to put probably the most influential bassist to me(although I haven't learned a ton of his lines) Muzz Skillings!!!! serious stuff.

Gibbs has worked with this producer Andres Levin a lot, check out stuff with Arto Lindsay and Ely Guerra that he's played on. Muzz Skillings was awesome!!! And Doug Wimbush too!!!! He's BAD!!!!!!!!!!

There are some name i forgot to mention (not necessary in the five best, but in those i love) : Adam Yauch from Beastie Boys (Gratitude and many others), Peter Steele of Type'o Negative (for the sound from that bass going out of the woods, and for being able to wear un upright bass like an electric one with a chain as strap, of couse for his voice...), Andy Rourke from The Smith (Barbarisme begins at home...).

MNF

Yup, Andy Rourke would be in my top five as well.

It's been getting all a bit '80s round my stereo lately...

Is Ron Carter still around?

Nice to hear Larry Graham is still thought of. He had the " chunky "sound like nobody else :)

Another "don't know if he's still around " favorite, is Larry Taylor from Canned Heat and John Mayall back in the late 60s-early 70s. He used to play through four 30 inch speakers in reflex cabinets driven by a stack of 200 watt SUN heads( IIRC). His sound hit your body so hard between your belt buckle and your butt it made your ears useless for anything but to keep your glasses from falling off :D .
Oh yeah .... he could play too :) .

All those are great bass players(Geddy Lee being the best) but one mand I haven't heard yet is Michael Anthony from Van Halen. That guy has some hot bass lines too.

I can't believe it took 6 pages on an EB/MM forum to mention
PINO PALLADINO.
I don't recall seeing anyone mention Chris Squire either, without whom Geddy Lee would sound very different.
