Costello, hands down!

I got in a drunken brawl with EC in Rochester, NY at "Scorgies" in the fall of 1979...it was me and him against two dinks and lemme tell ya...you would not want to mess with EC.

Whoa Steve, that was you???

Yup...twas I....

I was the day bartender at the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza one block away from Scorgies and I went to high school with Eileen Ferron who was Don Scorgie's wife so when my shift was done at 7:00 pm I'd walk down to Scorgies and eat my dinner at the bar and talk to Eileen and stare at her massive tracks of land so to speak. The upstairs bar was quiet that night with just me sitting at the far end of the bar eating a bbq beef sammich, talking to Eileen and drinking a Genny Cream Ale. The only other customer in the bar at that time was this funny looking fellow with BP style glasses on sitting mid bar minding his business and having a few pops. It was EC who was in town playing the Rochester War Memorial the next night on a double bill with Joe Jackson who I had just got done serving that afternoon at the hotel lobby bar. The three of us started talking, more beers were consumed then a few shots...no mention of who he was or anything but Eileen and I both knew who he was but just wanted to let him enjoy his drinks in peace...I think the topic of discussion was soccer or something. Anyway, Scorgies was a known spot for darts and EC asked me if I wanted to shoot a few games so I accepted the challenge and he proceeded to kick my tail for a few games. It got to be time for the downstairs club to open around 9:00 pm and more people started to come pouring in and two guys asked if we wanted to play them in teams so we did....more drinks, more shots...then as the bar was pretty packed there was some disagreement between EC and one of the other guys on scoring of the game and all hell broke loose...this dip clocked EC and it was on...the whole place went nuts and there were fists, bar stools and bottles flying all over the place. I managed to escape with just a few lumps and bumps and EC cleaned this guys clock in no time flat and a half dozen others before he was through...don't mess with Elvis is all I can tell ya!!

WHOA, what a story! I think that was the fight that was talked about in his biography...I'll check it out tonight and let you know. WOW. I am an EC freak like no tomorrow. I probably would have freaked out in that bar if I saw him but you were cool and just let him hang. Geez, I can be such a dork when I'm starstruck...

Oh don't worry...if EC was a bass player I would have been star struck...I prevented Tony Levin from enjoying his salad backstage at NAMM this year.

Yeah, I kinda made an ass out of myself in front of Bootsy Collins -- then a couple years later made an ass out of myself in front of Dave Mustaine... [sigh]

I'm stuck between "This Year's Model" and "Get Happy!!", with "Armed Forces" standing by itself!

"(I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea" is one of my all-time fave bass lines to play, with "Goon Squad" right behind it!
