Id be more than satisfied by just a simple Single H Bongo.

I was one of the first around here to have a Single H Bongo. Sold it and regret it badly.

I think that I would like the mahogany body and neck with the ebony fret board. Second choice would be rosewood for the fret board. The rosewood would be a bit darker in theory. Increasing the amount of fundamental in the basic tone of the instrument would be the advantage here. The deeper voicing of the instrument would give me a second Bongo with a different sound and I could bounce between the two as desired.

I would stick with the HH pickup configuration but would entertain series/parallel for each and one overall.

I found a good article on tone woods. I suppose these differences in tone may sometimes be open to conjecture – but overall they fit with my experiences. Not a lot of difference in sound would probably be generated by using Swamp Ash or Alder over the Basswood. The main difference would be the basswood is a bit “punchier” than the other two – but they are all light woods. For a wood grained finish the ash and alder are better though.

I don’t know if it is OK to post the link to the wood article – but if anyone wants it just PM me.

unfinished neck, natural satin body finish, ebony board and 9lbs with five strings

Also, balances when sitting would be nice

I was reading through the thread for some "Totals"

There are many that would like mahogany. Some like woods like ash or alder for a bit different tone but the ability to get a natuaral finish.

Several said what you got is fine - but a new color please. And others no pickgard.

And a couple of maple requests.

Of the above - there seems to be two general ideas. Presentation with colors or wood finish. Tone with either mahogany or maple. My studies of the tone wood are a bit unfinished. Some think that mahogany has more bass - while others think that maple has equal bass but more highs that just cover it up. EQ it out and you are OK.

Ideas how to draw this together?

Mahogany would be quite fine as corpus wood; ebony or maple fretboard as a contrast to the mahogany body would be thinkable;
On my perfect Bongo,I'd opt like to see a 22 fret neck ... I NEVER go above 21 or 22. Then, I'd like to have 2 H pickups, with the bridge PU in the same position as in the single H Bongo...

I love my Bongo but I played a 25th anniversary a while ago and I liked its electronics/pickups a lot. I still like the shape of the Bongo more though so how about a Bongo with the passive + series/parallel + front rear pickup switches like the 25th has?
