Danna Carrey. I dont think I spelled that right, but itll sound right. :D

Danny Carey. ;)

For me it would depend on style:

Funk/Jam : Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood)
Fusion/Jazz : Akira Jimbo
Groove-based Metal : Kenneth Schalk (Candiria)
Technical/Exteme Metal : Chris Adler (Lamb of God)
Crazy/Indie/Rock (ie: Primus type stuff) : Zach Hill (Hella) or Tim Alexander (Primus).

Yikes! What a question. It so depends on what kind of music the band is playing, etc. etc.

So you go with a favorite (one of many!) and hope for the best.

Simon Phillips or Abe Laboriel Jr---oh and Shawn Pelton from Saturday Night Live--did a tour as his drum tech many moons ago---an absolute freakin monster player. I played a few fun gigs with him and a guitar player called PK Lavengood(who plays most of the time with John Eddie from NJ) in a little dive in Asbury Park. It was called PK's Band Without Fear. A rotating cast of guys would show up for the gig and we would play whatever the audience yelled out--whether we knew it or not----man was that fun!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D

This won't be a popular answer, but I have a twin brother who drums and I wouldn't want to play with anybody else. His influences are basically all of the aforementioned, but with a connection that we were born with. Lucky me!

I think this is one great answer. And Calvin and Hobbs celebrating to boot!

Ohh! That's a tough one Spud. I think if I had to choose it would be....
In the following order:

Neil Peart
John Bonham
Keith Moon
Mike Portnoy
Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Damageplan)
Joey Jordison (Slipknot). This probably surprises a lot of people and Slipknot aren't my favorite band, but he is amazing LIVE!!!

Hell of a choice. You must know some people :D

Mine would be Portnoy.

Directly followed by Andy, my drummer for about 10 years - amazing player. Really intricate like Portnoy. I wonder where he is . . .

I also like Bonham, Peart, Nicko McBrain from Maiden and Carter Beauford from Dave Matthews.

It's hard to choose just one, but I'd go with Steve Smith.

I'd consider bringing Jeff Porcaro back from the dead, but that might be a bit spooky.

Just got back from seeing Tool at Hammersmith in London.

I'm changing my answer to Danny Carrey.
