Hmm, I guess it's been a while since we've done a thread like this one.. although I'm sure we could dig one up in the archives...

I'd have to name the following (with a great track cited for reference).

1) Jimi Hendrix - One Rainy Wish
2) Steve Rothery (from Marillion) - The Web
3) Eric Clapton - Motherless Child (the blues standard)
4) Neil Young - Like A Hurricane
5) Steve Stevens (from Billy Idol) - Eyes Without a Face

I bet a lot of you will freak 'cause there aren't any shredders in there. Sure, I love those players too, but I'm proud that my faves are more musicians than guitarists.

- John Petrucci (super techinical, mindblowing riffs, great melodies, the tone!!!and of course EBMMJP!!)
- Steve Morse (super flexibility, melodies, The Bash :D , EBMMSM)
- Al Di Meola (I dont know what to say..... wow!!, master of acoustic guitar!)
- Andy Latimer (from british band "Camel": master of melody!) I think that JP solo in Goodnight Kiss (the second part - played in pentatonics) is very Latimeresque
- John McLaughlin - I will never understand what is he playing :D Absolutely amazing because so mysterious.....

There is no gradation, because each of them is the best in something else for me.

Interesting discover is Mathias IA Eklundh from Freak Kitchen. I have to say he is incredible! Really worth of attention.

PS Jeeez! How could I forget about LUKE!!! Of course he ids one of my absolutely faves!

Nice to see Steve Rothery get a mention from a US poster!

Mine are: Brian May, EVH, Satch, Hendrix and Rothery.

or maybe they are Page, Wylde, Kelly Joe Phelps, Nuno Bettencourt, The Edge.

or maybe Gary Moore, Eric Clapton, SRV...

Too many to pick :)
