How is Vai not on more people's lists? That's crazy! I can't really pick the top 5 best of all time because that's just ridiculous, so here the top 5 that influenced my playing the most.

It's debatable what order these should be in, but these guys shaped my life.

It's debatable what order these should be in, but these guys shaped my life.

I definitely would put Vai high up, but I tried to limit to one 80s shredder on my list. That would be Mr. Van Halen. He's just got more of an underlying bluesy groove. In a way, he's an even better songwriter and rhythm player than a shredder... like Hendrix.
