Always a fun topic. In no particular order:

Robben Ford
Oz Noy
Fareed Haque
Pat Metheny
Bireli Lagrene (the Michael Brecker of guitar--nothing he can't play)

Honorable Mentions:

George Harrison, Wayne Krantz, Wes (really, honorable mention?), Steve Morse, George Benson, and a host of others...

Steve Morse
Brad Paisley
Andy Timmons
Mateus Asato
Eric Gillette(Neal Morse Band)

Interesting to see Gillette listed without JP present on the list as well; to me Eric mimics JP incredibly well, but doesn't stray far enough from what I've heard to give him his own style aside from JP's influence.

Ok, here are mine but it's hard to only list 5.

  1. Eric Clapton
  2. Jimi Hendrix
  3. Steve Lukather
  4. Stevie Ray Vaugh
  5. BB King

I can see your point, so let me explain. Eric can play the Glass Prison crosspicking arpeggio at full speed live (even though he didn’t write it). Eric’s soloing on the Neal Morse Band’s “Similitude of a Dream” is more my style. IMO, he’s a more natural player with better feel than JP. Not taking anything away from JP. I’m sure Eric would cringe to read this. And the cool thing is if Eric’s in a band he can literally play every instrument at world class level and deliver amazing tenor vocals. He’s the best all around musical person I’ve come across.

Steve Lukather, my favourite since as far as I can remember !
Ty Tabor
Michael Romeo
Jorn Viggo Lofstad
Eric Johnson

But I could have added Simone Mularoni (of DGM), Mats Haugen (of Circus Maximus), Mattias IA Eklundh (of Freak Kitchen), Marco Sfogli and the all time classics like John Petrucci, Andy Timmons, Steve Vai, Brian May or Ed Van Halen, just to mention a few.

SRV - The best and will never be replaced.
Gilmour
EVH
Eric Johnson
Satriani

Very tough to limit it to 5 like they said before, it has a lot to do with how you are feeling that particular day. 1 and 2 are consistent though.
