It comes with the territory on a factory soponsored thread. I think that your comments got well recieved even though in this case they dont mean Poop. My opinion doesnt count and neither does Dudley's...we have been their for advise guidance, and execution. I am VERY happy with the results because JOHN is happy with the results.

A little hint from being here awhile....Hate and sucks usually gets a polar opposite and confrontational response....Its not my cup of tea or I prefer or it doesnt float my boat...get the pictiure

thaniks for your input...seriously.

I never assumed they did.

So am I. That's the most important thing. It was after all, JP's music that led me to EBMM.

I don't believe I ever used "sucks". Don't think I ever would when talking about an EBMM guitar. But I get you. Point taken.

Thanks.

Please understand that I wasnt picking on you in anyway shape or form Just responding.

i also didnt say you said sucks, but know that generally the more eloquent you phrase your personal opinion the more respectful the dialogue is. Not singling you out taking the opportunity to point it out.

Sterling, thanks for sharing this stuff man. You know we all appreciate it immensely and you don't have to do it, that's for sure.

Allowing us to nitpick what utimately makes no difference to the end product shows an immense amount of patience on your part. Again, I thinkw e all appreciate it.

I think everyone realizes that however the guitar turns out his how John wants it, not how the public wants it so they'll buy it. That being said, everyone voicing their opinions (while irrelevant) may be worthwhile feedback for other things (what, I'm not sure :D ).

My qualms with it were tiny, they sure as hell wouldn't keep me from buying two 7 strings. :)

BP, I like the racing car analogy. It's just that a lot of guys here can't afford the GAS :D

Me, I'm really happy to see prototypes as you guys work toward JP's production model. Not every guitar has to resonate with everyone ... that's why you have so many models after all. (I'm just lucky that the Y2D happened to be my perfect guitar.) Plus, we all know the drill. Build it, watch him play it, sit back and watch the orders come in ...

It is amazingly cool for a geek like myself to see the various stages in the birth of a new guitar. Thank you very much to BP for giving a glimpse at what is just around the corner.

My personal take on the latest JP prototype is that it has lost a bit of uniqueness (if that's even a word) compared to the current production model... But, if the trimming of "baby fat" also sneaks it's way to the upper horn, It'll be one fast looking race guitar, that's for sure!

I know I might be flamed for this, but to me this prototype looks like the lovechild of the current production JP and an Ibanez RG. I believe this might have something to do with the missing forearm scoop - as I am pretty sure that reintroducing the scoop would take it right back into "original" territory.

Personally, I'm a jeans and T-shirts kinda guy, and overly "pretty" guitars simply make me feel out of place. However, MusicMan has the Axis and will soon have the new JP - both guitars that I inexplicably like even though they (for a lack of better words) are way too pretty for me. If you make this thing as a 7 in emerald green, I'll simply have to buy it ;)

As the former owner of a lovely Pearl Redburst JP6, and currently being a confessed 7-string wanker, I can't wait to see the 7-string prototypes undoubtedly on the drawing board.

In the classic "if-only-it-were-my-signature" vein, I guess I personally would choose to loose the binding, direct mount the PUs (or use symetric cream coloured mounting rings) and bring the scoop back... But this thing isn't about making me happy, but about making John Petrucci happy.

Edit: I took another look at the picture of the prodution and the prototype JPs side by side - the production model looks decidedly more "pedestrian"... the new look is growing on me :)

Cheers

Eske

For the record, I was at the Guitar Center in Edina, Minnesota last night and was talking to an employee about the prototype coming out. The guy told me that EBMM isn't going to bring it out, that they stopped it. I told him he was thinking about the Sub, not the JP. He asked the manager and he also said the JP wasn't being done. He said that the Sub and JP aren't being made anymore and that Guitar Center wasn't buying either any longer.

May I suggest someone with clout give them a shout. Prospective buyers may look elsewhere.

As a former employee of that particular store I can say - don't bother. Ever tried banging your head against a brick wall? Ever get anywhere? Let them be ignorant, that's the way they like it. You know why? They cannot sell you a proto that's not hanging on their wall. If you can't buy it today, the salesman is not really interested in what you have to say.

Nice one EBMM folks!

As BP said, give it a while to settle, opinions often change as time goes on. Hell I even like the latest BMW 5 series now!:D

AHHHHHH thanx Steve your the best ,like i siad i have never played one ,or seen one in person,so that is actually scooped out? i just thought it was angled for his playing style on a flat kind of angle but it actually is carved or SCOOPED out eh?........neeto

And just for my sake .... having never seen or played either i like the look of the new one MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the old design

Thanks for the preview BP! I like the look of the new design, I can even cope with those pickup surrounds.

I'd also like to know about the finish on the mahogany neck. I've been told in the past that you can't oil and wax mahogany like you can with maple due to the more open grain pattern on the wood.

Have you found a way round this, have I been misinformed or have you used a satin finish in order to seal the grain but leave as unobtrusive a finish as possible?

Lenny,

It's not severely 'scooped', per se... it's more like an angle, but there is a bit of a curve to it. It's one of my favorite features of the guitar, so I will certainly miss it, but I think the only indispensible thing on the Petrucci is that amazing trem bridge!

I love the Formula One car analogy. For some reason, that says a lot to me. Likening it to another form of car racing wouldn't have gotten me as excited.

What was interesting about the original EBMM JP is that it resonated with me in a big way. Perfect control placement. Great sound, the sound I was looking for. It just felt and sounded right for me. What I wanted out of the guitar kind of changed, though. I imagine that's where JP is. I hope that this guitar will address those changes tonewise. I imagine it will. I'm somewhat floored that as my taste changes a little, JP's taste kind of changed in the same direction. Boy, am I glad we're on the same wavelength here. We'll see how the guitar feels. You can be sure I'm going to order one, though.

Actually, I think that the new one is even more unique. There's an asymmetry to the design that, I imagine, is due to JP's own ergonomic concerns. Certain contours remained. Certain other ones went away. Some things got slimmed down. It looks somewhat more compact. To me, it's like a "melting" away of certain edges like the way handguns for concealed carry get "melted" away for the sake of making sure they don't snag on your clothes as you deploy the weapon. It's like those edges are smoothed away. This JP looks leaner and meaner but, interestingly, more muscular like JP himself.

Anyone interested in a kidney? I need some cash.

Seriously, I think it's a wicked guitar. I am curious as to what you guys have done with the neck finish, as previously stated. Also, have the neck dimensions changed?

After posting this I realized I'd already replied to this thread and looking back I guess I've become more positive about the guitar with my second look, so I guess it does grow on you (and I guess 20 is a good age for degeneration of the memory to kick in, huh).
