Heheh... Oh you evil person you...:D

Ah man, the pressure is building. I need to get back to that GC and test the Silo vs Silo special and really noodle that RW versus Maple question in my malfunctioning head. Why "malfunctioning" you ask? Because I haven't even received my ASS yet (should be here in the next 2 weeks) and I'm itching to pull the trigger on one of these 2008 LE's. :D

Dude - my brain really will be malfunctioning after my wife pulls the trigger on me

Didn't somebody ask Rob to host a course in convincing spouses that new guitars are a good thing? I need to take that class right quick.

When it comes to spouses, I have a very simple argument: "It's a healthy hobby, and the guitars are great for our kid's education funds...:D"

Heh.

But seriously. I did a simple test with the wife: Which looks better? RW or Maple (even though I prefer the feel of the maple), and she said RW. So, thankfully, my order was already in RW, so I said: "Guess what honey?":D

I love the case pictures on that auction. Looks like the Sequoia Gold is tough to photograph. You can tell the NAMM pictures benefited from a tremendous amount of overhead lighting. I love that paint...browns, greens, golds. GAS.

BTW, have you see this picture?: http://www.ernieball.com/news/283/ **it takes a while to load.

If you concentrate really hard, you can almost see a Silo Special / RW / Matching HS. Very hot!!!

Rob,

I need some help. I just created another thread with my experiences playing an HSH Silo and SSS AL. I won't recap it all here, but I wanted your thoughts comaring the sound of the SSS Silo and SSS AL. I didn't much care for the Silo I played, but the AL blew me away. How would an SSS Silo with RW FB compare in sound? Do they use the same Pickups in those two guitars?

Thanks!

AL has seymour duncans, Silo has dimarzios. Both sound like a great strat, just go with whcih guitar feels right, most of the time the AL wins, it just that special something when you play it, not unlike any other guitar ive ever played. My Dargie Silo Special SSS with rosewood FB sounds a little more strat-like that my maple AL's, the rosewood board has that darker warmer crunchier tone.

Do also note that one is alder and one is ash. These 2 differences attribute to a big change in tone...

Does anyone have any more pics of the 2008 LE in something other than the JP6? It's been 4 months still not one AL pic, BTW does anyone know when the window closes for ordering this because bedside's being referred to some dealers on here the local GC does not really have a clue. Thanks

You and I both Rob... I think at this moment, we're the only 2 end users on this forum who've ordered one...

I hate the wait...:(

LOL...I think thats because very few people even know there IS a 2008LE out. Its not like your local guitar shops have any info, besides the scrounging around asking people for pics on this forum you're basically screwed. Wait...I think maybe three dealers who post here quite often know, but I am talking about just being able to walk into a GC or some other shop and get some info...uh, there IS NONE.

Allow me to offer an educated guess on why there are no pics of the AL, the ordering window. Odds are that there are no pics of 2008 LE guitars other than the JP, because no such guitars have been produced. Just as likely, there may have been some made but not shipped. It's quite possible that the only guitars made in Sequoia Gold were the ones shown at the NAMM show and the JPs that have been shipped. The other ones are coming. If all goes like things have gone in the past, you'll start seeing them in the next few months. If it's anything like last year's LE, the 2008s are just rolling off the line now. Be patient.

As far as info on the 2008 LE is concerned, Dargin's sticky post is there at the top of both the guitar and the bass forums.

The ordering window? It's the same as every other LE, which is to say that EBMM doesn't even have a hard cutoff date. The general rule has been that the LEs are available for order until the back order time pushes the construction date into the following year. In other words, they'll make these things until the end of the year. Last year the cutoff date was around June or July IIRC.

A word on local GCs. Generally, they have no clue. You're right. Many dealers have no clue about many of the details of what's going on with Music Man's special products. The dealers here do, obviously. Isn't that enough? Why trust your local GC when there are other people here that know better?

Because you're average buyer of a decent guitar would like to have a little more information to go on instead of having to hunt down this information on a manufacturers FORUM. GC is your largest instrument retailer (correct me if I am wrong) and have scant information on MM products on a daily basis. How is that? So my options are to order the guitar from one of three dealers on here? I have not had horrible experiences with GC, as a matter of fact their no questions asked return policy(30 days) is the reason I prefer to shop there as it has saved me from having to stick with a couple terrible purchases over the years. I've also cut quite a few decent deals haggling with them, so I dont really see them as the devil. Maybe you're right about them not producing them yet..who knows...been a while since NAMM though you figure there would be maybe some more info and a few more pics.

The reasons for GCs not being up-to-date on a daily basis are multifactorial. There have been numerous threads replete with people bashing GC for various reasons including their not knowing what was up with EBMM products and lack of EBMM guitars at many of their stores. Some of the criticism is deserved. Some of it is not. From now on, I'm not going to bash GC over their being uninformed about the details of EBMMs. I've already made my choice to buy from other people.

If you really want to buy from GC, well, I would say get your information from here--whether it comes from knowledgeable forum members or EBMM people. Then, go to GC and order what you want. There are many stories of that being done too. Honestly, I think it's pretty much the same all over whether you're talking about the musical instrument industry or the car industry. Many times, consumers are more informed than the people selling the merchandise, because the consumers have searched for the information on the web on official websites and enthusiast forums. I recently test drove a car, and I knew everything the saleslady was going to say about the car before she opened her mouth. She even got some of the information wrong. So, it doesn't surprise me in the least if your GC doesn't have up-to-date knowledge. That happens on a routine basis when informed consumers shop at Guitar Center, Best Buy, a BMW dealership, or whatever. I don't lose sleep over it. I don't bash GC for it. I'm just telling it like it is. I just go get my information, and I order or buy what I want. I only use the salesperson to perform the transaction.

I don't think you have to buy anything from JeffreyB, Pete & Nick DuBaldo, or whoever else is a dealer that posts here. I don't think it would be a bad idea, though. I reward the dealers here with my business, because they know what's up. Also, I don't want to risk GC screwing up my order, because some guy at ground level doesn't have a clue.

My main point is that your retail salesperson, wherever you go, in whatever industry may not have all the information. You might have to get the information elsewhere and educate your salesperson.
