Something tells me that if the number gets to 122, it will go forward anyway. However, you are right - this "I'll only participate if it looks like it's gonna happen" is lame. There's ZERO risk here - order, if it fails you get your $$ back. If it happens, you get a very cool (and fairly unique) bass. It is, as the young people say, "All Good"

This is the kind of thinking that will doom 19mm spacing. Everyone wants to be the order to push it over the top. If you want one, order one. That's the only way it'll get anywhere near 125.

Won't you guys feel dumb if there are 122 people waiting around for it to "get close to 125?"

Actually, I won't feel dumb. There are many reasons people may or not decide to put a $1,000+ deposit down. But at the end of the day, I have gone ahead and done so (even though I do not play a 5 string) to support a very worthwhile cause. I hope that 125 people agree to support the Casey Ball Foundation in this endeavour.......oh yeah and to get an awesome bass as well. I am #7. SR5HH Maple.

now, with the danger of sounding selfindulged.. it would be nice if you would let us europeans in on this too ;)

you know.. we are used to paying more for eb basses so i didnt even think twice when i heard 2150$ for a hh.
but i do understand that there is more to this than me getting a nice bass.. distribution is important, and so is loyalty :)

So as a Newbie I start poking around, and find the following thread re the genesis of the Dargie's Delight series:

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-basses/50287-dargie-secrets.html

Looks somewhat like the current 19mm exercise, but only somewhat. A whole lot more orders, spread across the entire EBBM bass and guitar product line, and apparent dealer participation. Very cool that the company has previously responded to consumer demand in this manner. Sorry not to have studied this history earlier, which might have been instructive in ginning up the 19mm exercise...except I'll guess that none of the guitards would favor 19mm spacing.

And, of course, this Dargie thing required NO RETOOLING. Some craftsmanship on the martini-glass inlays, and a whole lot of green paint, and there you have it.

Joe I m glad you edited your deal in that inlay is about 100 bucks to program...paint and a slik screen makes it so we could do it across the line.....this is a whole different beast and I would be donating all the proceeds too....

Im sorry to be a pessimist but it doesnt look like it will make it...we are at 7 orders with 5 days to go..

This speaks volumes about all the people who ranted and raved for over 45 pages of forum posts at TalkBass over string spacing. You'd swear they'd be lined up around the block to get one of these basses. Apparently not so.

Big Papa:

I have been informed that if you send a letter/message or something to the moderators / operators of TalkBass, they would be happy to run a formal announcement for this offer... Me, I think the folks on TB are well aware of this 19mm thang, but putting up a "hey, look what we're trying to do" on the home page might generate a bit more buzz...

Just a thought.

Thx

I share your pessimism...it is what it is. Remind me to tell you the joke about Trotsky, Stalin and the late-night janitor at the Kremlin, after we have the final tally.

And if you all could send a little something to the Talkbass moderators so they might pick this up on their front page, that would be most sporting!

Joe and Harry....I cant possibly bring myself to send anything over there. I never read it but some was relayed to me and I know that the entire talk bass is probably great..but...it was so uncalled for and over the top.

Does anybody think some of these attackers were punkd? THey actually had a chance to put up......

Hah ... totally. I'm saving this thread for the next time I hear a debate on a forum about the zillions of people that would buy a MM if you just changed X, Y and Z.

It's too bad....so many were wanting yet so few put their money on the line. Is what it is.

Understandable on not wanting to send there, although the moderators/management should get some credit for shutting down some of the TB threads when the trashtalk went over the top. As with many scenes, you sometime have to ignore the bad apples.

sigh...

Sterling has the patience of the Pope I swear. If the BS that started over this thread ends up driving BP away from the forum (someone I respect and admire tremendously), I'm not sticking around. All this over string spacing...unreal.

BP, you have done more than anyone else would have. I am the President of my Condo Association. I see this same thing all the time - why don't you this, why don't you that but when the time comes to put up for what they ask....<cricket>...<cricket>...<cricket>...Just the way people are - never satisfied.

Keep on Rock'in BP :)

Wasn't there a small ordering window for the ROASTED necks? I know...I know...kinda apples to oranges, but I'm curious how many units were sold then for a pretty much BLACK instrument? I hear people complaining that only if I could get it in THIS or THAT color, I would order one. I just don't know....

I think the big difference with the roasted necks, just as with the all rosewood necks, is that all of us who got one or the other were alreday diehard fanbois, whereas the 19 mm spacing thing is (mostly, or so I think) not primalily for us.
