Took another pic of the bass. As you can see, it does have the matching headstock.

Got a new cab (Aguilar DB115) so I set everything up and tried it out. This bass is pretty dope! Just hoping I can remember which settings I like.

I can't remember, but I am sure I read it on the boards somewhere: when is the target release of the Big Al 5? Summer NAMM 2010?

I gotta say that if they do a Big Al fiver that would be just friggen insane! the Big AL is sooo versatile as we have established already....A five would just slaughter a whole wack of generic 5 ers for sure in sheer versatility alone! I mean it can be a P or J or both or....etc! list goes on.

In my mind they truly have bridged the gap between a P and J bass sound with this one. It's got a unique look to it, whilst still having a distinctive tone. Sure they are a fairly sizable hit in the wallet for some but when you factor everything you get back in return, it's like dayyum! these guys make the best mass produced bass out there. So yes a Big Al fiver would most certainly find it's way into my stable indeed! Make it happen!:D

Spend some time this is a really cool balanced bass with a lot of really interesting tonal nuances...not as in your face and obvious as a straight active humbucking Music Man

That's what it is. It's sneaky. At least for the Bongoloids, so accustomed to being able to knock down outbuildings and so on, at first it seems so...nice. But then you start playing with it a little, listening to it a lot, figuring out what works well together and it's like - bam.

"This is REALLY cool."

anaheim namm 2010 big al 5er

Aw, come on, call it the Bigger Al. Or the Humongous Al. Or the REALLY Big Al (ed sullivan accent on that one). The Biggest Al!

Okay, I'll stop now.

OK Eggie and All I dont know if you guys are doing what Im doing but I really liked this bass in the design stages...played them off and on in the factory...Dargie sent me one and the more I play it the more Im loving it. I had a jom the other night with Phil Rich the head guitar guy at GC and kept thinking that I would seitch basses and never did.

I'm with you here BP. The more I play my Big Al the more my rosewood neck Bongo sits in its case. Two entirely different yet satisfying basses. I couldn't be happier with the Big Al and you all know I am a Bongo-head. Big Al 5 - can't wait.

Flame is light in pics - buts shows fairly well in the headstock. Beautiful!!!

PS: looks like it could use a dose of Wonder Wipes. ;)

Dang it! ….I didn’t think you’d notice. :D Truth is, I love the shape and feel, and if I remember correctly we discussed, before the bass's conceptions, how cool I thought and Albert Lee bass would be…. but I just can’t escape the grasp that the MM Humbucker has on me! Plus I needed to snag the 25th BFR and the move just made sense. That said, a 5 has my attention. ((Since I’m playing 5 in the new group exclusively) (especially if you make a Big Poppa version with the 25th pickup, I’ll be first in line, heck, I’ll be its unpaid spokesperson!))

Not trying to be defensive just clarifying …..ok maybe a tad defensive but in good spirit! ;)

After playing the Big Al at my last two rehearsals, I took my Bongo 4HH rosewood neck to last night's rehearsal. It rocked and felt great. I wondered during a couple of new tunes we were working out, how the Big Al would have sounded. No doubt good - but different.

Long way of saying for the poll that has been put on this thread, another possible answer:

Depends on the day!

Guess that's the cool thing of having two entirely different basses. Depending on your mood - each can have its time as numero uno!

When i had my Big Al for two days i recorded a little loop with a jamman looper with just the Big Al, using diferent passive and active sounds.

Its nothing i practiced, just a little jam directly into the looper but it shows a liitle of the big potential of the bass.

I loaded it up to the player on our myspace-side, the tune is called big al first shot:
