When other forums have done this, I've seen lots of people post repeatedly to express interest, but when it came time to collect deposits, the line got a lot shorter. In other words, I wouldn't worry too much about people joining the forum just to grab an LE bass -- if they've got the cash and the willingness to spend it, their money should be just as good as anybody else's.

Of course, I've been lurking around here for a few months and just started posting, so what do I know. :p

I bought an EB bass for no other reason than quality in my hands. There were a lot of basses hanging on the wall where I bought mine. Any choice I made would have been right. I am happy to say I made the ultimate right choice. That said there were some basses that I could have played and loved hanging on the same wall I bought my EB from. I am too old to listen at times :)

I go with to thine ownself be true.

As for being a forum member the only requirement should be to be interested. Nuff said.

No offense, but I'm not really interested in another shade of paint. I believe EB have been known to do some real custom stuff -- the maple top bass, the graphite neck bass, and the string throughs for the foreign dealers. I was under the impression that if enough basses were ordered, EB would do something a little more unusual. This bass would be a collector piece, so in my opinion, the Stingray would be the best choice, because it is a classic. Again, no offense to anyone here or EB. I'll continue to buy plain -- available to anyone -- EBs regardless of what happens. Heck I was told today that my new fretless SR4 shipped yesterday :) I think EB is the greatest musical instrument company in the business and the EB instruments are the cats PJs. EB certainly doesn't own us anything. :D

I think if you are a forum member and pay for it you should be able to buy an LE bass. You will alienate too many people if you start putting on alot of restrictions. To be special it shouldn't be advertised to the public, and always available to any new forumite.

Sorry--you're dreaming if you think EB is going to BUILD anything unique and special for the forum members. These aren't museum collector's pieces. They are something unique to the forum. Period. By simply having a color that can be applied to any guitar, or bass simply makes more sense. Maybe a Certificate of ErnieBalliositude. Don't expect them to reinvent the wheel because we use their bandwidth. You really expected them to go out and source a funky top wood?

And, I'm willing to bet that the majority of people here want a Bongo (single H is the overwhelming consensus, I think :D )

Keep it simple. Custom color, maybe some of that hip black hardware. I never expected anything more.

Now IF it ever comes to pass, and I have my doubts, Doug's on the right track. It would be available to forum members, right? And if there were some extra cash tacked onto each bass (for the Casey Lee Ball Foundation, to which I am proud to say I have contributed in the past), then why would Uncle Sterling care if the member in question had 2 posts or 2000?

If the bass ever becomes reality and you want one and you have the cash, you'll get one.

How's THAT for a concept?

Just thinking out loud after a big old steak meal and a few martinis (again).

And Jason's right about the color being the main thing. I have my doubts about this ever happening, but if we start asking for training wheels and gear shifts and flame throwers and so on, well.....it gets even doubtier.

Yes, I said "doubtier". It's French, look it up.

Having forum names on an LE instrument would be a wank................

And your understanding of the word 'wank' is.....?

Just interested BTW, not having a pop.

I certainly do not think that EB owes us anything because we use their bandswidth, and I said as much in my post. I also don't think that EB will build anything custom for this forum, and I really don't care either way. I am happy with the choices presently available to the general pubilc. The real point of my post, lost on some it seems, was to make clear that I'm not in for a custom color. There was some discussion regarding people getting excited about the idea and then backing out on gameday, and I was really posting in reference to that -- not waiting until gameday, if you will!

btw, my suggestion in my first post to this thread was for a two pickup Stingray -- certainly not a reinvention of the wheel. I only pointed out the maple top bass, and the others to illustrate other custom basses by EB in the past.

We'll hear from EB when the time has come I suppose. If we stay realistic (standard model, Stingray/Bongo/Sterling, limited edition color), we might get lucky and get what we want :D

If not realistic, I'd like to propose a limited run
of picks for forum members . . in discontinued
sparkle finishes. Nail polish for the finger guys.

Or t-shirts in 2XL so that I could wear one. It's a shame that I cant' advertise for Ernie Ball because I'm bigger than the t-shirts they make. :(

Several of our shirts are availble in XXL.

Reading this thread made me think that we could easily begin a sitcom based on a wellknown HBO one, that we could entitle "Bass and the Forum".

C. Bradshaw would be J. Bovine, who, after having some martinis, would write following chronicle for his newspaper (Bass player of course) :
" Does our desire for a LE forum member bass reveal the extended need of establishing ourselves as membership of a particular community ? If we want our forumnames on the headstock, is it just selfishness or the statement of a new identity based on the fact that we are EBMM bass players ?
To the contrary, if we are not intersted on having a LE bass does it mean that we have to leave the forum ?
Shall we do a pol to decide what that forum LE bass will look like, our do we have to put this idea down in some more martinis ?
Who are we as EBMM owners, and were are we going as EBMM forum members ?"

Of course, Bov' is not as sexy as S.J Parker, but he could easily take on the gimmick "Jack Bovine knows good bass".

Now we just have to cast the forum members to choose who's gonna be Samantha, Charlotte, Big...

...hum,...maybe I'm drunk to.
