Man,

I Love my EBMMs and I would never trade it for something else than a EBMM but,
this sounds very cocky here. Like the forum is a Scientology place or something.

I know, this is one of the top brands in the music industry but something like "If one famous guy wants it he gets it, if 2000 normal people want it, pfff no" doesn´t sound good.

Just my 2 cents. Still snuggeling my EBMMs and will never let them go...

Wow.

Well, it's no different on the guitar side ... I get PMd regularly on forums asking if I can "tell Sterling to make a ... blah blah blah". Everybody wants something different and none of them think their request is a distraction for MM. It always ends with "you'd sell a million of them". Everytime.

Talkbass is both useful and odd. If that post gets your dander up - you should see the thread some guy started asking if EBMM should only make StingRays as he did not like Bongos (probably never played one).

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/should-musicman-just-make-stingrays-781573/

As far as spacing - the 17.5 is fine by me. I think a lot of folks get confused by measurng at the nut or the bridge when they try to figure out what fits them. And sometimes one needs be aware of numbers - like if you are having a custom bass hand built or ordering something off the InterWeb. Then you can't just say "Give me a neck that feels good".

The guy that started the "EBMM should only make Stingrays" thread was obviously trolling and just about everyone took him to task for it.

IMHO the 16mm Ibanezes and such are to narrow, and 19mm 5-strings are to wide and make my arthritic hands hurt.

17.5 is great for 5-strings IMHO and if you have specific "needs" for something different then you should look at a custom builder to accomplish your goals.

Lotsa goofiness going on, at least the EBMM forum will get a few new subscribers for a day or two,..For a while, seemed like TB took a EBMM hater vacation, too many things to deal with with the release of the Classic ('Hey wheres my 2 band Finished Neck Option') and the Sterling Series (I'd get a Music Man if it weren't so darned expensive') and the Big Al ('hey I'd buy EBMM if it wasn't a One Trick Pony') and the Reflex ('If only EBMM had a passive option I'd be on that like white on rice')....but some old friends are back, just spewing. The fixation is fascinating to say the least, there ARE threads complaining about 19mm spacing being tooo wide, but just not as hate filled. Oh well. Think I'll go on the Upright Bass boards and complain about my Juzek spacing.

Peace

All we are saying...

is give Bass a chance.

this sounds very cocky here. Like the forum is a Scientology place or something.

Here is the deal...Guess what...Its my ass on the line...period. I dont have shareholders but have 125 families to feed...if I screw up everyone suffers. At the same time if I dont get to execute a vision why should I bother? You say cocky that I would make it for an artist...did you think in your rigid mind that the artist may just actually drive sales and validate your narrow scope of what you want?

I have tried to very patiently explain myself. Do any of you wonder why Bob Taylor Isnt on his forum or Paul Smith on his? Ill tell you that both have told me that I am crazy because the entitlement will drive you away. The statements of fact about what it costs and what is easy when most have never set foot ina factory is astounding.

I have also asked very nicely to not make this about Talk Bass...when people who attempt to defend em of this place throw TB under the bus it only hurts us. They dont remember that Whatchamallit from podunk said it they take offense at the whole place here.

Big Harry has said it is no big deal to make this bass. Big Im sort of calling Harry and the rest out here with respect but here is the tooling alone for the 19mm bass

Bridge Tooling $5,000.00
Bobbin Tooling $9,500.00
Pick Up cover Tooling $4,000.00
compensated nut tooling $2,000.00
Total Tooling $20,000.00

Engineering time 100 hrs at $150.00 $15,000.00

Parts about $20,000.00
Total investment for 19mm bass $55,000.00

I have the purchasing department giving me the minimum quantities and our cost for the cost of the actual parts needed....Best guess $20,000.00 in inventory needed..But I will get back to you on this....

I will open this product up for order....For a two week window...You can buy it through shopatron on our site...it will be a single or double h sr5 19mm spacing Black only rosewood or maple fretboard...fretted only Same retail as the SR5.

Lets see who is right. If we sell 125 in a two week period I will make them and offer them ongoing basis and send everyone a signed certificate saying they were right.

If we cant sell 125 ...will you post an apology to us? Will you give us the benefit of doubt in the future? Will some start considering that there is more to bringing an easy product as some have said to market?

Figure it out I will not make a dime it will cost me money to make the 125 based on the tooling and inventory involved.

Scotty is setting up the shopatron...Understand that these are binding orders....unless the public fails to order 125...we will be charging your credit card a 50% deposit upon placement of the order. The deposit will only be refundable if the orders fail to meet the 125

Its a big world and we sell Music Man in about 75 countries....If there is a pent up demand we really should sell 500.

Wow. Well, you set that site up and maybe post the link (I just looked on the EBMM site and saw nada, but it has been less than an hour...) and I'll see if I can afford it. I am a *sucker* for a company stopping what it's doing to make something for ME!

Oh - and I never said it would be "no big deal" - I said that it seemed like it would be "pretty tame as a design proposition". When McDonald Douglass modified the F-4 to have be an RF-4, it was comparitively speaking "pretty tame as a design proposition" but it certainly was a big deal - I respect that. Which is why I will be one of the guys to put up in this case.

I'd do so faster if you made a blue one...

Put me down for its NOT going to happen with 1 color in 2 weeks... but I love EBMM. I'm the other way around... I can't do 19mm spacing which is why I dont have a Lakland 55-02 right now so its a Bongo 5 for me in the future to go with my Sterling HH
