I reckon the UK lot will order quite a few if it's possible. I'd quite like a black/maple HH just for the fact it's yet another EBMM!

That doesn't make sense. If they had no interest at all, then it wouldn't be offered. If they get the 125 orders, it'll become a new option. Sounds like a win-win to me. If you want one, order one. In all cases, if you purchase an instrument new at retail, you're helping the company.

1. bassmonkee knows me well

2. this isnt a trick...Its a win win for me. Im now making it about me. If there is a demand and Im wrong I sell more basses...If I'm right and there isnt the demand that others feel maybe and just maybe I'll get the benefit of the doubt.

3. Im not mc donnel douglas.

4.Prior to this thread there were no plans...until I typed it

5. If you want one of these you arent betraying mm...you get a choice that you like

6. We will start this in USA sorry. If you bitch enough to the distributors in your country Ill make something work out.

7.was anybody surprised at the numbers?

8 If in fact there is a passionate backlog two weeks should be enough to get your deposit in order.

I'm just hoping someone sells me a sweet Bongo 5 to pay for the 19mm Ray.
Now thats a win-win! Anybody? Crazy colors are my fav!

I wish I could do 19mm spacing, Big Poppa is right, its a freakin big neck, same as an Ibanez 6 & with my aging hands its too damn hard. Love the 17.5 spacing

I just want to say that I was one that wanted a glossy neck and I will admit that I was completely wrong about that. I hated the glossy neck when I tried it and preferred the oiled neck. My personal preference is for 19mm spacing and I will try to place an order if I can swing it. Props to BP for drawing the line in a way that he wins either way and gets lots of free publicity in the meantime.

I'm not really a 5 string player but I'd like to see if I can swing it. I know I tried an SR5 a few years ago and liked it and the spacing wasn't bad (from what I remember). I'm going to have to see if one of the local GC's have an SR5 for me to try out in the next few days.

Very cool BP,

One question, how long will it take to do all of the re-tooling? I mean once/if you get the 125 ordered, won't it take some time just to get the setup done before actual production can start? For the record, I CAN play 19mm, but love the 17.5MM, so I won't be ordering.

Big respect to you BP. As someone who runs their own business, I really don't know how you find time to put up with all this cr*p! It seems that in this world no matter what you do or how well you do it some one is always ready to sling some mud!!
A case in point: My wife and I registered to start fostering rescue dogs at the weekend, one was promptly delivered to us yesterday!.... went on the charitys facebook page to see what had been written about the dog, just out of interest, as you do, and stumbled across a page set up by "rival" dog rescue people slagging off they way they operate and how they should do it better....really nasty personal stuff.... What is the matter with people I ask??:(

Anyway....I will be really intrigued to see if these 125 orders come in..... Sadly i doubt it will shut anyone up if they dont....

I won't be ordering.... Wouldn't have even known what the string spacing was on a SR5 if it hadn't have been for this thread. All I know is that EBMM and SBMM 5's seem to be the only 5 stringers i can get on with....17.5.... It just feels instinctively "right" to me.

I know a number of you frequent the TalkBass forums. Recently someone has been trying to stir things up complaining about how Music Man doesn't make a 5-string with 19mm spacing. I always cringe when I see these because I am saddened by other people's sense of entitlement and further by narrow-mindedness about the industry. One particular entry was really cruel and upsetting to read.

"Ernie Ball is simply missing out on that market and if they're fine with not getting that business, so am I. It's basically saying that while I know you like my other products, you should spend your money elsewhere because you can't get what has become a standard for most of that market segment here. G&L took the same tact. Most smart businesses look for more opportunities to make money." :(

Normally, I wouldn't bother acknowledging things like this. But I'm just shocked by how some people can think this way.

Well I'm not a 5 guy but Just last week I was reading somewhere on the Net and it wasn't music man either and the topic was the Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 was the most requested 5 String on the market, So their doing something right, and you can't please everyone.

As the OP in the talkbass threads that got this rolling, I thought it right to hop over and express my appreciation for Sterling Ball taking this project on. Yes, he has this dialed in so there is little downside for him, but I don't have any problem with that!

Let's see if the order target gets hit, but I'm in (if colors other than black should be available, even at an upcharge, I'd want to pursue that, but even black is fine so long as that SR sound is there).
