In the ongoing "what color should the tailpiece on the first 50 be?" riddle...
From banjoplayer's voluminous pics, look like the following breakout:
Black: 1, 4, 14
Chrome: 2, 23, 25, 27, 30
I *would* go with the theory that early one (first 20ish?) had black tailpieces, but #2 is sticking out like a sore thumb...
Anybody else have pics/info on this topic?!

I think it has locking tuners for quiet some time...
This pic I took in 2010 at a clinic here in Stuttgart, Germany (to show the locking tuners)
now where is #1? The last posts of Flying Colors are still showing Steve with the replacement guitar of #1. When he was on German Tour with DP over here in late October we heard #1 got a refret. Did it take that long or does Steve treat #1 with care now?
