well, received the call while I was at work, from my gf, That my amp had arrived. I was so excited that I decided to see if I could get out early. I could not wait to get home, I felt like a kid at christmas. As I'm pulling my newly acquired Cornford hellcat combo out of the box what do you think the first thing I noticed was? The cabinet itself seemed to be kind of flimsy and wobbly? I set it down and there my heart sank, The whole right side of the cabinet is split right down the side. Another goddam tragedy from f*cking ups:mad:
Even better, while I'm contemplating keeping it and just having it repaired I decide to call the gc i bought it from. As I'm talking to my salesperson I notice that they labeled the tubes themselves when they removed them but didn't provide a diagram for the chassis side:confused: well, i figured it out and as I go to turn it on, They didn't pack a damn power cord with it:eek: Finally got it powered up and it sounds good but a couple of the pots are bent. this has been such a disappointing ordeal. Just for ****s, I'm going to bring it to Noll's amp guy this weekend before i decide to bring it back but that Friedman brown eye amp is looking pretty good right about now

As much as its a disappointment, send it back. I would not like to drop that kind of coin on an amp only to have one that was a repaired 2nd. Who knows what else will go wrong down the line?

A Cornford amp...... destroyed by UPS.... oh man!!! I am so freaking sorry dude. I hope it gets 10000000% totally settled out for you.

Good luck

The only thing i can do is get my money back from UPS or guitar center. UPS will take over a week so if anything I am just going to return it to guitar center and let them bite the bullet. It should've been boxed up better than it was. I'm pretty pissed off about the whole situation. Like I said, I'm going to see if it will be cheap to have the cabinet repaired first this weekend.

Oh dear, terrible story! Don't sit waiting on this, deal with now and quickly. Call the store and ask them to make it right. Tell them to take this one back ASAP. Ask if they can ship you a replacement unit, ask them how soon they can do it, and when you can expect delivery.

I don't know how it works in the US but in Europe the store you bought it from are the only people you should deal with. You have a contract with the store to supply and deliver goods, your claim is with them. The store has a commercial account with UPS and they hire UPS to ship the goods to you. If there is a claim for damage in transit, that is between the store and UPS and has nothing to do with you. The store are the people taking your money, they have to make this right.

Sounds like the best advice!!

Dr. Kev is 150% right. GC needs to make this right with their customer. And GC can get a MUCH BETTER result from UPS seeing as how they are a major UPS customer and you are nothing to UPS. If you send it to UPS, UPS will say it was packed wrong and deny the claim. Hammer GC and get them to make it right. Good luck!

Here are a few pics. The side view shows some of the damage
. I dont know if you can see the crack line under the leather in the pic. Ive spoken with gc already and I can just return to the store if I want

Go with DrKev. Don't mess around with it. You paid for new and as much of a pain as it may be you should have one in brand new condition even if you have to wait longer. Don't let GAS get the better of you.

OUCH, that must have taken one hell of a bash. There I was waiting to hear about how much you loved the Cornford sound...

I'd definitely take it up with GC and get a brand new one.....

I'm not stabbin' anyone, but who on earth boxes/packs/ships a BOUTIQUE AMP so shoddily? It doesn't make sense!

Guys just to clearify this was a used Cornford that they specified in mint condition. ( aside from the crack it is) Spirkby, it does sound incredible. I got 200 off the used price when I paid for it so if I can get it fixed for 200 or less I may keep it. I already pulled the chassis out and there is no damage to any of the tag board or anything else. The chassis itself is very solidly built, and the wiring inside is breathtakingly glorious. I would have to double what I paid for this to get one new. I will still be amp shopping this weekend though just incase

Ah, that does complicate things! But still, the damage did happen on their watch. The bottom line is that you agreed a price and now you will be out of pocket to fix something that wasn't part of the deal. Maybe they can cover the cost of the repair? It can't hurt to ask.

Glad it's not otherwise damaged and that it sounds great!

This is a job for Tite Bond and a few clamps.

But once again Dr Kev's idea is a good one - get the shop to cover the cost.

My mate a Mackie authorised repairman had a unit damaged whist in transit to him - he just returned it and got The Shop/Mackie/Post courrier to sort it out.

I agree again with Dr. Kev. You paid for "Used Mint". You got "Busted and Banged Up and Maybe bent pots". Those ain't the same. Regardless of whether it was mint when they shipped it, their shoddy packing job didn't protect it adequately. GC will make this right. But every second you sit on it the worse your odds are for them to be amenable. If you wait a week, if I was the sales guy I would say, "This was delivered a week ago, and now you're calling? How do I know you didn't take it to a gig and accidentally drop it down a staircase." UPS will say the same.

I would strongly advise you call GC NOW and tell them they blew it (bad packing) and they should give you another $500 off to make this right so you can get it fixed and deal with the hassle. And then you go and get it fixed up. That's how I would handle. Good luck man and sorry about this disaster!

P.S. How can you be 110% sure there's nothing wrong inside unless you send it to Conford to have them compare it to factory specs on the bench? What if 2 months from now you blow the transformer because something was shorted inside? Just worried for you!
