Petrucci Prototypes part 2

Sorry to have to post it, but I can't seem to find any mention of when JP is supposed to test-drive these puppies. Anybody know when that is? Also, if it's already been done, anybody hear anything about sound clips that we can have access to to listen to the overall tonality of this proto?

Thanks for your time, folks!

I'm going to ask him tonight. :)

I'm going to see them on Gigantour in Dallas and have the Platinum package thingy where you get the backstage and meet-and-greet.

Hopefully he won't be swamped by the other 19 people there and I can get in one or two nerdy guitar questions. ;)

Please, let these come out before Christmas. :)
Can't wait to pre-order.

I wonder what pickups will be in the guitar, current JP6 pickups or some new Dimarzio combination. Any thoughts?

Rock on!

Sweet, Jeff! Hopefully you can get a Q in to him to ask him about the release and when he's supposed to test 'em.

Tone, since JP's using some alter DiMarzio's on a Baritone (?) fiddle for the Octavarium tour, I'm assuming that this new guitar will be used primarily for backing rhythm tracks and are going to need something to bring out that low-end and overall tone. At least, that's the impression that I got from the design.

Alanjr, I was thinking they would leave the current JP6 pickups in, as the neck-thru and mahogany would really thicken the tone up (no pun intended).

From whats been posted so far, this is pretty much the guitar I've been looking for, 22 fret, 24 3/4 scale, mahogany body/neck, hum/hum, preferably string thru or stop tail, with the feature everyone loves about EBMM guitars, awesome necks and upper fret accessibility.

I wonder if they would do their gunstock finish on the neck thru as opposed to a painted neck. I am a big fan of the EBMM finish on their bolt on necks, Axis, Luke, etc... Just a thought (hint hint). ;)

You guys, keep in mind that these are prototypes and could change at anytime. One thing for sure..They will be awesome guitars, and I'm gonna be in line with you all when they are available to order.

Woooooooooooooo... man that was rad as hell. :)

I just got back from Gigantour in Dallas and did the meet-n-greet with the band. They are all as humble and attentive as you'd think from videos and/or interviews. Every one of them was as nice as could be. :)

I, luckily, got to talk to John for about ~8-10 minutes or so (everyone kind of hounded Mike). I asked him about his prototype and he said he's decided to stick with the scale of his current EB instead of the Gibson-scale of the first prototyles. He also said he'd like to change the shape of the cutouts on the back and the way the lower horn is cut/shaped.

He also signed my guitar on the back cut out (I'm going to cover it with a sitck-on classical pickguard cut to shape; I've done this in the past, it's very durable) and checked out the set up and said it's very very similar to how his guitars are set up; not to low, not to high. But, he does like his pickups closer to the strings than mine are.

All in all, it was very cool. John is a really really nice guy (as are the rest of the band) and was very attentive and, dare I say, interested in my questions on technique and stretching (I asked about working out and tightning of muscles/tendons and how he dealt with it; he basically said "just don't overdo it").

I plan on going and seeing them again later in the year for the "Evening with..." tour once dates are announced.

I will have 2 pictures with the band in ~7 days (they're contacting me via email). When I get them, I'll post them. They hammed it up for me in the second one. :)

See? I told you it could change. We will have to wait and see how it turns out.

Great story, look forward to those pictures. Did I read correctly that the band is sending you the photo's? you don't hear things like that very often.

I'm not sure if it's the band as much as the group that's handling all the meet-n-greet stuff. I think they're handling it for DT and Megadeth as well.

It's probably through Fanfire (the online retailer that sold the tickets) I'd guess.

I just picked up my Guitarist Australia magazine today and there is an interview with Dave Mustaine in which he says that they have been approached about bringing the Gigantour down here to Australia. I hope so I'd love to see DT down here, you can keep Megadeth though.

Not to pee in your cornflakes, but from what I understand, DT is dropping off for the last 5 days of Gigantour and done with it at that point.

They are going to Europe and Japan for support of Octavarium.
