Big Poppa, I took no offense to your comment. I agree completely about playing it first. I was only referring to my initial reaction to the Pics posted. Visual image reaction. That's all. Visually I like the new look better than the SR5, the huge pickguard kinda overwhelms me on the SR5. But I would love to own a SR5. I like it better than the Sabre also. But again visually, I think the SR4 is a classic. I also like a 356 Porsche better than a 911 Targa. I like my TR4a look better than the TR7. Maybe I should visit the Triumph forum and stir some feathers up there.
My Stingray thru my Eden WT-400 and two Epifani NYC T-112 cabs is just perfect for me. Others may hate it. Their view has no impact on me.
 
is the preamp the same as a 3 band EB SR4? when the bridge pickup is soloed, how close does it sound to a stingray?

those are the two main questions i have. i really want one of these but i suspect that if i bought one i'd probably just use the second pickup as an expensive thumbrest!!!!

That's a risk we may all have to take, but for now nobody knows. There's always the good ol 'wait untill one comes into the shop to try it'.

The control plate has no screwholes (just holes for the knobs), and on one side has a 3M Sticky stuff on one side covered by wax paper (or whatever they use to cover it before use). All you do if you want a control plate is remove the knobs, take the paper off the backside of the control plate, put it over the knobs with the sticky side on the body, put the knobs back on and BAM! A beautiful 2 Pickup control-plated monster!

Personally, I don't think sticky paper and basses should have anything to do with eachother. That just seems a little cheap, and not consistent with the build quality of the rest of the bass. It would be better, in my opinion , if there was an option for no control plate when you ordered the bass. Since it looks like that's not going to happen, I think the control plate should stay on all four string Stringrays. It's just part of the whole classic stingray look.

I agree, no sticky stuff, that would be a pain to remove or reapply. Could the nuts that hold the pots in place be used to hold the plate down?

Seems like more people want the plate compare to the number of people that don't so it'll probably stay. I think the bass is too busy with both the switch and the plate though, but that's just me.
 
You really have to make sure that each and every option really makes a difference worth offering. With the new models we are way over 50,000 options.......So
metimes the production planners and control people wake up with dreams of murdering me for the options we have already.

On one hand I like the control-plate on the Stingray - it is an integral part of the Stingray's character.

On the other hand, the switch off the control plate seems out of place to me.

Must dwell on this a bit more... :p
