I'm not completely sure if this violates the rules or not but when I told my wife she made a comment that was just too funny not to share:
"Yay! Boobies for Christmas!"

Hmmm, could be a catchy slogan to maybe pickup those last few donations... just sayin...

I can't imagine the state insurance plan would be more expensive than an individual plan. I am self employed and my monthly cost is going up about 16% this month after 33% a couple years ago and xx% last year. I pay close to a new Bongo every month.

(street price!)

Thank you and I totally agree with you. Our fiscal year for the State starts in July so every July that deductible per person starts over again. Our Governor also sent all State employees an email a few eeks back telling us to expect to pay higher premiums for insurance this year. I have been with the State 5 years now and that will be5 years in a row and maybe more where they have raised our insurance rates. Depending on how high it is, I may actually look this year at insurance outside of my employer.

Thank you as well! With that, the total now collected in $4,069.00.

We have also looked at outside insurance and it is through the roof. Plus, a lot of places won't cover my wife for future cancers if it ever did return and they won't cover our youngest son due to him being born with aortic stenosis of the heart and having to have open heart surgery 2 1/2 years ago.

That is the one good thing with my insurance through the State is they cover any pre-existing stuff. When Zach had valve replacement surgery 2 1/2 years ago at Children's, the entire cost of everything was around $260,000.00. But I only had to pay $5,000.00 of it so that wasn't that bad for that with all things considered. With Rochelle, I don't know what all of her stuff has cost because she got diagnosed right before our fiscal year and we maxed that insurance out and then at the beginning of our next fiscal year, maxed it out as well. I'm sure though with everything she has gone through, the cost was probably close to $100,000.00 of which we had to pay $10,000.00 out of pocket over those two fiscal years. The most important part though is both my son and my wife are still with me. While I do hate the cost that it has cost me out of pocket, my wife and son are irreplaceable!

I don't want to get too political here, but when I hear stories like this, it shocks me when many Americans don't support a national health care system. I can't imagine having to pay $10,000 or $5,000 out of pocket, much less $260,000! While our system is far from perfect, everyone is covered.

I agree with you. I also would love to see the different research companies share their information and research with each other. They won't because of personal pride. They want to be the one to exclaim that they found the cure for A.I.D.S. or for Cancer or whatever disease there maybe. Yet, if they combined their knowledge and research, I firmly do believe that a cure for many disease would already have been found by now.

With Canada, it has been years since I have been there but I love the Country. My Dad used to be a long distance truck driver from before I was born up until I was in high school and during that time, he often did runs to Canada. I used to go with him so some of my fondest memories are from there. I've never looked into their health care system though.

The sad thing is that there is more money for them in treatments than cures. A cure would be a one time income source per patient whereas treatments are multi-income sources per patient. Something as relatively benign as the common cold generates millions in cold treatments (cough syrup, tables, drops, nasal sprays, etc...). They are not interested in losing these revenue streams. Absolutely sad!!!

God bless you and your family.

Can we leave this thread on topic? The object of the thread was to raise enough money for Jay's wife to get her reconstructive surgery. Dialogue about anything else will distract from the purpose. Momentum has slowed and it would be real nice to push this over the top! We only need eight more people to help out for $100 US.

Hi all, I haven't been here for a while, and saw this last night. Jay, I'm sorry that I cannot do this right at the moment, but I will try to be able to contribute something soon. Peace and Grace to your wife, to you, and your family.
