guess what? I like number 1 alsolike number 1 best....it stays in character with the sting ray . I think that I will auction off for the CLB the backrouted one.....Prototype baby!

I will be sad to see it go to someone other than me but it should bring a nice chunk on eBay for the CLB.

It has the character crescent moon control plate which IMO is inkeeping with the Sting Rays evolution

I think they both look like killer basses but if pressed I would choose the chrome control plate just for tradition.
As for all of this talk about whether or not a Stingray is still a Stingray when you add another pickup? Is a P bass still a P bass with a bridge pickup added? (Yeah, I know they add the word "Deluxe" to it.) The original P had a different pickup when it was introduced than it does now but the name didn't change when the split pickup was introduced.
I think it is awesome that EBMM is being so innovative and forward thinking. The other bass companies out there had better hope that too many players don't see and try these new basses or their sales will be seriously diminished! (Note to other bass companies - reduce production now to avoid massive inventory surplus.)

Hey, I don't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday. If you like, I will flagilate myself with a heavy gage B string. The pick-up shell does look different though, doesn't it?.
Is the bridge pickup the same as the neck pickup?
BP, in all seriousness, I hope I have not offended you. It was surely not my intent. You guys make great basses. The Sterling blew me away when I first played one and it still blows me away every time I play it now. You guys took a classic bass design (Stingray) and fine tuned it into an even better axe. The two scoop basses are simply a continuation of this. I don't doubt that EB's experience with the Sabre has been helpfull in designing these new basses. I really don't care what you call them, but I'm pretty sure I'll call one mine before too long.

In person #1 seriously looks like one mean mofo, while #2 is smooth. My vote is for #1. The Stingray was meant to have cojones.

On number one, the one with the control plate, does the switch get in the way on a dark stage when you're reaching down to crank up the mids?

What does the back look like on #2 (snicker)? If the control cavity is covered with an unpunched plate like the sparkly flamed Biff Bass, it'd be really cool. Of course, I don't think that would work with the switch...
FWIW, though, I'm with tkarter--I'm pretty much done buying 4 string basses, so it's a moot point.

The switch on the SR is at a different angle than the Sterling. We felt that it gave a great vantage point and also helped differentiate it from the Sterling. In person the switch is not a problem, and isn't too close to the control plate. We had moved it about an egith of an inch just to make sure it wasn't too crowded. I believe it is around the same distance to the control plate as the Sterling switch is to the pickguard...
